You’d struggle to make this up.

Bands and the reasons they were undesirable.

Yazoo - Violence
Depeche Mode - Violence
Madness - Violence
Iron Maiden - Obscurantism
Talking Heads - Myth of the Soviet military threat.
Julio Iglesias - Neofascism
Canned Heat - Homosexuality
Village People - Violence (but not homosexuality...they must have thought that “you can hang out with all the boys” was just a reference to good, clean, communal living)
Tina Turner - eroticism.
Blondie - Violence. But NOT banned for eroticism! Did they never see Debbie Harry’s lips in that Heart of Glass video?

It’s like a bad out-take of Alexei Sayle in Whoops Apocalypse!

They missed

Sting: Questioning whether the Russians love their children.

Tom Robinson: Talking about the Third World War baby.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Perpetrating myth that TWO tribes wish to go to war, and incorrectly assuming that, in the case of war, Soviets would score only one point.

Level 42: Using myth of Soviet nuclear threat as reason for illicit sexual relations.

Thompson Twins: Utter, unredeemrd dogshite.

A-ha I can live with. Neo-Wagnerian synth pop is always acceptable. Early OMD we’re fine before they got all pretentious and started going on about Joan of Arc.

Thompson Twins were just turgid cack. How can you title a song “You take me up” then make it sound about as life-affirming as a Black Death funeral chant?

Proof that nowt good has ever come from Chesterfield.

I'd use the term 'crowd' loosely. I've seen more in the Keepmoat for Belles games.
