We will struggle with the current squad. Forrester, Coppinger and possibly Keegs if he signs are the shining lights. Any injuries and we will be in turmoil. I could argue with you that PDs Oldham squad was better than this lot.

You would argue Night was Day, your opinion doesn't count for much!

Are you saying it wasn't? Including their loan players it was much better.

I agree looking at it, it probably was on level terms with ours or better.

But I think dickov massively underachieved hence one of the reasons he was sacked/left before he was sacked at Oldham.

In a player versus player comparison I would definitely pick Furman in midfield

PD had his hands tied in terms of the back room setup he had. In terms of players he had some decent ones. Smith and Baxter up top with Derbyshire. Jonathan Grounds (who is now at Birmingham) with M'Voto, who he raved about, at the back. Plenty of good players for this level and it gives us some sort of benchmark of what you need to be competitive. We are well short at the minute. Hopefully we have left the injury nightmare behind and we can get on ok with a small squad.

We will be lucky to get top 10 in my Opinion after this summer. I can also see Forrester ripping the league up and moving on in January.

This time last year I said we would get relegated and we did.
Having said that, with the players we brought in in January, and the position we were in with seven games to go, we should never have gone down. As I've said many times before, that was IMO all down to one man. And he's still here.
With the players we have now, I say we will really struggle this season. If Coppinger, Keegan and Quinn stay, and we bring in another 2 or 3 decent players, then mid table. If we have a run of injuries like we do EVERY season, I think it will be a battle to get near mid table.

Top 10 for me. As long as we get a semi decent keeper and a few a bit more defensive experience we will do well

Difficult to say. There are obvious gaps to fill, but if we can bring in a strong goalkeeper and field a solid defence (with Jones at the heart of it) then that gives us a solid base with the likes of Keegan protecting it. We have some good attacking players, so with some quality additions (hopefully approaching) we could yet surprise a few.

Lots of ifs, but it's not without hope.

Would like to think we're play offs or there abouts. I've bets on @work with Gills and Scunny fans for us to finish above them. Cash in the bank!!

I'm with you Donnybax.....14th too and a pretty average season.
We are due one, over the last few years we have either been fighting relegation or fighting for promotion.
Exactly as SOD called it a "yo yo team flitting between the 2nd and 3rd tiers of the EFL.

...with M'Voto, who he raved about, at the back.

Or, as he is known in Barnsley, "Shinner" M'Voto.  The lads I work with have described the feeling they get when he goes near the ball on the deck.  Its exactly the same as I used to get with F-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-enton

Hand on heart, if we're top two, we'll definitely go up. From third to sixth, playoffs.

Genuine expectations?  To be competitive in every game, especially in the midfield "engine room".  Do that and results, and table position, will follow.

I've got a feeling there won't be many teams looking forward to playing Doncaster Rovers this season. If both Jones & Mcombe are fit nothings gonna get past them in the air with hopefully a couple of speedy full backs to tuck in when needed. I know Dickov likes to play a high pressing game but I think we would be better suited to sitting deep & hitting teams on the break with the pace of the front 4 at present. Having said that there's no reason why our midfield can't control games especially if we can keep Wellens. Couple of signings & we will be just fine.

Bottom half but above the relegation places. Anything above is a bonus.

It's difficult to call at this point, I'm unfamiliar with this league again, whether or not the standard is higher than last time, I don't know.

The squad we have looks to have some potential, if we can add some strength in depth.

I'll go for mid table but I wouldn't be surprised if we can do better than that.

If we can wait until the end of April, we'll have a good idea of where we will finish..

I'm not offering to have my a**e tattooed  ;) but I'll be surprised if we finish above 12th.

Some decent players but not enough strength in depth. If we get injuries we'll be falling back on using very inexperienced lads.

Idd imagin if we got injuries that's when we would use the loan market.

I expect us to play a lot more football than the last time we were at this level.  That may or may not work in our favour but at least it will  be better to watch.

After the disappointments of certain departures, I'm encouraged by some of the players we've since retained and brought in. The likes of Wabara can improve and potentially excel at this level. What I'm confused about is the short term contract he's been given, the one month deal for Keegan, and the signing of a promising young keeper on a short term loan. I thought I understood the strategy when it was set out, but I'm struggling to reconcile it with the above. I hope it's still to become clearer, as right now I'm still left wondering a bit.
