Good shot stopper - has to work on other areas of his game. Can we find better?

This quote annoys me most when people talk about keepers. What pro keeper isnt a good shot stopper? Thats the basic requirement to make it. Keepers should be judged on Distribution/Commanding their box etc.

Not the best keeper we've been blessed with, thanks but no thanks from me.

If all good keepers are automatically good shot stoppers then why are some keepers clearly better than other? Are Buffon, Courtois, Hart, Casillas better than Gary Woods simply because they have good distribution? Because by your reckoning they are all good shot stoppers.

In this instance,i think we can do a lot better solely on how he commands his area..Tough descision as he isn't the worst keeper weve had by a long chalk, but we do need to try for better..I wonder if he has somebody lined up already as it wasn't long ago he was keen to try and extend him...

So does this mean were not signing another keeper on loan.

I read it like that first time, but now I think it means we're looking at other positions including goalkeeper. Hopefully a left-back as well.

Well they are all good shot stoppers. My point is, no pro keeper is a 'bad shot stopper' are they?

Yes, wasn't Ben Smith beaten by shots from distance quite often - or was that Woods?

@drfc_official: PD: looks like Jed Steer will be returning to Aston Villa at the end of his loan. Plans are in place though #DRFC

This tweet came before the other.

I thought Steer improved significantly since the start of the season.  It's not easy playing behind a paper thin defence.  In recent games he's kept out at least 3 great efforts per match.  He can't keep a clean sheet by himself

He should have saved Hendersons effort the other night.

I think he did well to get anywhere near hendersons goal.
He's definitely got better these last few weeks... I can't see us getting Johnstone so therefore I can't see us improving on steer

I think he's improved considerably over the past few games. He's not the same quality as Sam Johnson but he's certainly going to have a decent footballing career and is better than some that we've seen down here.

Steer was the MOM last Saturday at Fleetwood, he prevented the score being 7 or more to Fleetwood, we were lucky to get a deflected goal that was credited to Tyson.
