Play-off form?
« on November 28, 2015, 08:41:12 pm by mattco »
I just checked and when we were promoted last time from League 1 we had accumulated 39 points after the first 20 games.  This season we have managed 24.  Does a play-off finish look possible?

We are only nine points outside of the top six with 26 games (78 points) left to play (for).
We would probably need to get around 72 points by the end of the season,so 48 more.
The way Fergies results have been going that could be 16 wins and ten defeats.
Very possible.

Ferguson said he wanted 20 wins in the league so far we have 4 and one draw plus the win in the cup.

So he is aiming for another 16 wins so should we as fans, if not more, fergie has a 55% win percentage.

This could be a great season if we carry one at that

3/1 with skybet top half finish, 22/1 top 6 finish.

3/1 top half finish is a license to print free money!

Those are very, very silly prices.

Given our form over the past dozen or so games, I'd be very surprised if we didn't make the top half. And given that we're only nine points off the top six AND in decent form AND with a manager who has twice gained promotion from this division, AND presumably will have a few bob to spend in Jan AND we've played 8 of the top 12 away already, I'd expect us to be capable of bridging that gap more than once every quarter century.

We're now 2 points behind where O'Driscoll's side was after 20 games in 2007/08.

Still think that it will probably be 10-12th. However  I'm often wrong, the odds of 3-1 are superb worth £20 and a £5 on the P/Offs.

I got 5/1 against a top half finish a month ago and I had a decent wedge on that price. Really, really silly odds.

Not massively fussed about where we finish this season, bar the relegation spots.

Said this before we appointed Ferguson, but what I wanted to see was a manager with a plan who we could all get behind. Ferguson clearly has an idea how he wants to play and as an added bonus it is attacking and hard working football that is getting results.

May not last forever but I am going to games now and enjoy them rather than the chore it had been for the previous 2.5 seasons. Still couldn't tell you what the Dickov style was except getting beat and playing turgid football.

Personally, I don't see us making the play offs. I hope I'm wrong obviously. We're still 9 points away and at the moment nearer to the relegation places. Not that I think we have a problem on that front.

Had we got rid of useless **** (add your own word) when we should have done it may have been different.
If Fergie gets us promoted from here, he deserves a medal.

No, we most likely won't make the play-offs. But we'd make them more often than 1 time in 22 from this situation. And that is why the odds are worth a little punt.

Well spotted and thanks for the info prez, I hadn't noticed this - I think skybet have dropped a big one here and have had £50 on at 3/1 - amazing price and will be a big contribution towards next years ST! cheers!

Well I am still hopefully of cashing in on my 150/1 for promotion bet.
If we did finish in the top six I would fancy us then because our play off/ cup final record is great.

It's been mentioned somewhere that last season from an almost identical position to this we got into the top 6 under Dickov with 16 games left to play. Now last season 6th place was a lower than usual total but it still makes the playoffs look very possible.

Has it not been reported somewhere that df's aspirtional target was circa 75 points and a top 6 finish? If so let's hang on to our hats and enjoy what could be an interesting middle and second half of the season!

I would imagine that if the above is the case we'll see some serious investment/spend on and off the pitch after chrimble!

75 points is a sensible target to be aiming for for the play-offs at this stage of the season. The 6th placed team's form so far this season would give them 75-6 points over a full season.

It's too early to speculate if the actual total for 6th place is likely to be lower or higher than that. I'm sure you'll all be delighted to hear that I'll have a look come late Jan/early Feb.
