He came in for a lot of criticism over his plans for a PL1 and PL2, in fact I think JR had a pop at him in his book over those very plans. But I met him just the once and he was very hospitable and polite, very chatty and forthcoming. I liked him.

Didn't he want a close shop for the premier league with no relegation or promotion....looking at bolton now I can see why

I'm afraid he most certainly was not a gentleman at all Bally. He was selfish, avaricious and uncaring of the well being of football. I do not wish him ill personally, but he's no loss to football and, over this last 10 years, he's no loss to Bolton either.
