still won't score more that 5 goals

Eh?

Give him a new contract and double his wages immediately. Will handle league one easily.

Whoooooosh.

It's not a whoosh as I got that it was sarcastic. I was merely wondering who had suggested he wouldn't get more than 5 goals.

Mush look earlier in the thread with the post from "eastender" on August the 13th

Ahhh shit apologies, I thought this was a new thread not an old one revived.

Some great comments.

I think there were several on here in the summer questioning how many he would score.

Nick, i remember posting earlier in the season that i thought that Marquis and Williams looked as though they would become a great front pairing for us.
Someone said that it wouldn't happen.

I thought he might get around 10 but be a big player for us. Surprised me how good he actually is, I thought he was just a hard worker that chipped in.

Even in the Championship I bet Marquis has never had the quality of service he has here in Copps/Rowe/Houghton/Blair/Grant etc.

Wouldn't yet say he's a 'proven' goal scorer as lots of strikers have 1/2 seasons and drop off but his all round game suggests with stability at a club, he'll always score.

This season, the way he has played and the goals he has scored...I hope it puts to bed for good the notion that a striker who signs is not gonna get the goals because of his previous scoring rate. Time and again a forward comes in and half a dozen people say "never scored more than 6 in a season, shit signing" well look what could be with some good management, some good players and a good attitude. Marquis has been a revelation and a real delight to watch in the hoops.

A goal a game would see him with 35 now that would be amazing

I'm just delighted that he's found the form of his career to date with the Rovers. I'm sure most clubs in League 1 and 2 (and a few above) would love him on their books. Got to agree though, the service he's getting from our midfield and attacking partners has helped him to grow into a top drawer marksman. Top man, supported by a top team.

Yes, he's surpassed mine and most fans expectations. Was natural to think he would be more of a provider than the main man but with his work rate and ability he deserves the goals and the recognition.

40 goals - Marquis and Williams

That'd be very nice

Just hope his stellar form in the last few games hasn't gained him some last minute suitors in the window. Good time for a new extended and improved contract maybe?

They are linking up very well. In fact in the Crewe game at times it looked almost telepathic. These two won't give any defence an easy ride for the rest of the season, and with the talent they have behind them it gives great cause for optimism.

I put the 2 posts below in June...boy were those lads right:

I've just been chatting with an ex-team mates of Marquis....says he's solid and will do very well for us :)

I've asked a couple of lads in know that watch Northampton regularly. They reckon he's a good player...huge work rate and knows where bak of net is. They also mentioned he knows how to keep ball well and is really useful when holding onto a lead at end of a game....I asked him what "a lead" was! ;)

Wouldn't you just hate to be a defender chasing a game late on facing these two? The effort they put in off the ball is amazing. Ian Rush used to be Liverpool's first line of defence when he was scoring for fun in the eighties. These are very similar in attitude, it makes life so much easier for our midfield and defence.

Akinde and Bogle above him the charts but they have scored 6 and 3 penaltys respectivly.

A lot of interest in Bogle and Akinde this window but I wouldn't swap either of them for Marquis...

As its been said before, Marquis brings so much more than just goals, work rate and the fact he looks like a wind up merchant on the pitch would make me hate to defend against him... I'm hoping that Marquis's hold up play might get Willo back on the scoresheet

The club should be offering JM an improved lengthened contract now.

He said in the newspaper it's the best side he's played in everybody plays for each other. What i think makes it hard to stop us is the fact we have people who can score goals all through the team. It's all well and good having teams who rely on one or two individuals but they are easier to beat than individuals that have formed into a team.

Tommy Rowe was an immense signing in the summer and has played really really well
However as well as he has played everyone is talking about JM which to me says everything

First time we have had a goal scoring quartet Coppinger, Rowe and Grant in midfield for well you tel me please. Oh and Blair wasn't counted and he has chipped in with a few also.
A very very long time that's for sure.

Looks like JM has already become part of the Rovers family, just seen some of the pictures of Paul getting hugs at Yeovil and right up there is JM, TopMan
