Pub for Saturday?
« on March 28, 2017, 10:18:43 am by colincramb »
Not seen a thread on this so far, so was just wondering if there was any 'designated' or 'official' away pub for Saturday? I'm guessing somewhere in cleethorpes. Any thoughts?

Good Luck with that one. I would personally give it a miss. I would also ensure parking near to Police Stn, the walk back is along Main road and down towards Tesco Etc, plentu of bobbies will be there.

There is a bar actually inside the away end at Blundell Park isn't there? Probably a good bet, providing they are actually serving alcohol to us.

It can take a long time to get served in that away end bar when there are plenty of away fans in.

There are 2 Pubs right on the Station for those going by Train. Number 1 Pub is on Platform 1 and is b-i-g and under the Canopy is a more intimate Bar with lots of real ale. There are Seats etc outside in case its full but whether either / neither are going to let away Fans in I know not

Dont pass up the Best Chippy en route Sealane Number 2 is a White and Blue place half way to Ground from Station

There's a Wetherspoons called Coliseum Picture Theatre not too far from the station, 3 floors with a beer garden, probably in similar size to that new one they've built in Blackpool on the front.

Can't imagine all the boozers being on lockdown and being shut before the match, just expecting it to be OB overkill.

Not driven there before for football but I've been told that you are best off parking on one of the side streets off the main road. Looking on Google Maps there are quite a few on the left before you get to the ground.

Big Car park near Station opposite Number 1 Pub - should be ok unless weather is great and tempts the day trippers.

Study map if you want to weave to Ground staying off the main road

Info;

•   Entry is via Harrington Street - If any supporters are collecting tickets, the ticket office is the other side of the stadium and is a 5 minute walk around the houses - literally!     So its advisable to collect nice and early before making your way round.
•   Street parking only unless you use the NCP's in Cleethorpes - the later you arrive the further you'll be away from the ground. There are a couple of disabled parking bays on Harrington Street on a 'First come first served' basis and tend to be taken before the turnstiles open.
•   Pubs - Waves is opening especially on the day for away fans and is located opposite the entrance to the pier and a 5 minute walk from Cleethorpes Train Station.  The Blundell Hotel outside of the ground is no longer an away pub and is home fans only.
•   Turnstiles will open at 11:30am as will both of the bars and catering outlets in the away end. The away bars do also sell '2 pinters'. As it its a sell out we would encourage fans to arrive nice and early to avoid any queues, the usual searches will take place before entry.
•   If fans fancy fish and chips, GR8 white on Grimsby Road is recommended or if they fancy a sit down after the game its Steels in the Market Place.
•   There are a couple of cash machines on Grimsby Road both before and after the ground as well as plenty around St Peters Avenue in Cleethorpes

Can you still buy them ' hold me tightly kiss me quickly ' pork pie hats at the seeside these days ?

Question . . . How many miles will the tide be out at 13:00 on match day.

The tide will be in at that time, so it will only be a 14-mile walk to get to the sea estuary edge.

As for the hats, there will still be some of the original batch left from the 1960's.

Go to Steel's means a queue outside normally

In tonight's DFP. Police hoping for family atmosphere.

Police chiefs are hoping for a 'family atmosphere' when Doncaster Rovers play Grimsby Town this weekend. ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads Away fans without tickets are advised not to attend the game on Saturday, with no tickets available to buy on the turnstiles on the day. Match commander Superintendent Dave Hall, of Humberside Police, said: “We are looking forward to a great family day with supporters of both teams enjoying the local rivalry. "To ensure it is memorable for all the right reasons we will have officers on duty meeting and greeting supporters and working closely with Grimsby Towns local stewarding operation. "We will be taking proactive steps to ensure any policing issues are dealt with quickly, so a minorities bad behaviour does not impact on the enjoyment of the thousands of supported expected at the game.” Nick Dale, Grimsby Town's stadium manager and ground safety officer, said: "This is going to be our biggest gate of the season and we look forward to welcoming Doncaster Rovers supporters to Blundell Park. "The stadium is opening at 11.30am with extra provision available in the Osmond Stand for our visitors to enjoy the day. "The Blundell Hotel is a venue for home supporters only so we would therefore like to encourage all away supporters to come and enjoy a drink at the stadium prior to kick off. Prices are being held for this fixture despite the budget increase. The atmosphere is going to be an electric family fun day as both sets of supporters cheer their team."

That's a lovely boozer. A really good restoration job done in there. Worth a visit if you appreciate the architecture!

The Grimsby SLO tells me its 9am. She also is enquiring about other pubs and will let me know if there is any availability.
