Is that a hand around a throat I see. (Plymouth farce he he.) I would have put my money if I was a betting man on the man in red and white. I was at that game. Suppose it was always going to happen.

I think all of us at that game wanted The Sarge to throttle him. Mind you, even as a young player Ricky would have had a go at him once he got up from the kicking.
Seem to remember Kevin Keegan didn't side with his player Barton. Think he told him that if you do that in the lower leagues you will get your come uppence!

I remember that really well.

Barton was a very distant second in that confrontation.

To be fair, Sarge was a legend.

The clip where he puts the Mansfield forward on his arse is good too !

Think Barton would have been lucky to get a bronze medal there
He'd been asking for that tbf

I read Barton's book and he talked about the incident, think he mentions Paul Green more than the Sarge though.

Not a bad read to be honest.

I remember the Wellens v Barton match at the KMS when we played QPR (i think it was).
Wellens got the better of him that day too.

Remember that happening, did we not have to sub LFW after the incident for some reason?

I seem to recall that Leo was involved in another incident and the ref asked Dave Penney to sub him. Whereas Barton was not subbed until half time. A pity because Leo was causing havoc with their defence and IIRC was replaced by Guy Ipoua- say no more!

it's an excellent archive - over 3500 Rovers-related images - well worth a browse:

clicky external-link type thing

Are you guys looking at a different pic? Things that give away that it's Dave Mulligan:

1. The mullet
2. The number
3. The name on the shirt
4. The fact that it is Dave Mulligan

Ricky's in the middle of the melee, and although you can see a bit of length at the back I'm not sure you can call it a mullet, and definitely not a sexy one, from this angle

i'm guessing that some folk haven't fully engaged with the exciting, interactive slidey-bar technology that allows you to see the full width of the picture...

Barton never made the headlines for his football ability, only for his indiscretions dont think we have heard the last of him, even though his career may be over.

I did indeed not realise the image was larger than the left half of it and assumed people talking about Mulligan were referring to Ravenhill  :coat:

In fact KK called him to side-lines and gave him an almighty b*ll*ck*ng in front of the Main Stand Terrace.

And he's still playing for Bedworth Utd. I saw him earlier this season while I was ground hopping at Barwell. Still got good positional sense but put a bit of timber on bless him.
