the back to back christmas/new year defeats by scarborough (2000/01 I think) - ruined a perfectly good holiday, and I pretty much ran out of obscenities for use in the DFR match reports, which takes some doing....

That Scunny away game last season on the Tuesday night felt pretty grim.

I think for anyone who has followed the Rovers longer than 18 years will probably point to the Richardson debacle, but I started going just after that so it's a tough call, we've had a lot of good days. The worst I've ever felt at a game was either another trip to Scunny - the 2-2 draw where Keith Stroud conspired against us, on the same weekend my Nan passed away - and the infamous Portsmouth defeat that sealed our fate in 2012.

Rotherham United away the towards the end of the season rovers went into the conference.

That rovers team that day was half full of kids and they played their hearts out but it was men vs kids and by time Rotherham got their 2nd goal you could see the hurt pain and tears in the kids that er playing for rovers that day.

Could not name any one of the kids today as I guess they are no longer in football ,but seeing some of them in a right mess state of mind while playing that game has never left me.

Cheltenham Town v Doncaster Rovers, 03 May 2008

Only needed a draw, lost 2:1 in the 85 minute after missing an absolute hat full of chances, felt like the end of the world at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

There have been many in almost 60 years of following Rovers.
Going onto the pitch after the Colchester game not knowing if we would have a club the next season. That has to be the worst feeling ever.

I'm with you on this one Idler. I went on the pitch ( after the whistle) and genuinely thought that was " it". Sobbed, sobbed a bit more then roared like a kid who'd been told his dad was a Dingle fan.
The police politely trying to usher us away after the players had waved from the stand. Then leaving us as they knew we just wanted to be together, as we thought for one last time.
Me, my Rovers travelling companion Steve and my son arms round each other... like a funeral.
We all know the story from there on, but that still ranks as the worst moment.Im sure this resonates with other older Donny fans. RTID.

I too was on the pitch, i remember clearly trying to console one of my mates who was in floods, he set me off blubbing, what a horrible, heartbreaking day.

I only experienced the Richardson years remotely, due to working away.

Lowest point?  Too many!  emotions would have been different when I was a kid to now, in recent times I would probably say hearing about Birmingham's last gasp equaliser at Bolton to relegate us from the Championship..

Not getting a ticket for Brentford...

Although as a kid it would have been in the season (1982 ish) when I first had a season ticket, and one saturday we had family visit so missed a game, only for them to say (at about 4 o'clock) "hope we're not keeping you from going to football"..!!  I think the missed game was a 2-2 draw vs Swindon, the only home game I missed that year..

Cheltenham away for me when I thought we'd blown promotion. Just didn't perform. I was devastated on the coach home and didn't expect us to regroup so well after disappointment and created probably the best memories I have of Southend and Leeds.

Chester away. It was the match where we were actually relegated from the FL, even though it was inevitable, still hurt like mad when I left the ground.
In terms of mixed emotions Spurs away in the league cup. Ecstatic when we pulled it back to 2-2, totally dejected when they went on to get 7, and to top it all off the stewards opened a gate at the back and all their hoolies descended upon us fists flailing...what a night!

The whole of the 1997-98 season and the feeling the club was being destroyed. Nothing else comes close.

Other low moments not mentioned above:

The day Laurie Sheffield was sold in 1966

Hearing about Birmingham's 93rd minute equaliser in 2014

Losing 0-8 at home to Nottm Forest (part of 1997-98 above)

The end of the SOD era in 2011, although it had to happen

Watching Rovers lose totally hopelessly 6-0 at Swansea on April Fools' day 1967 in front of my Welsh cousins - redeemed 40 years later to the day on Welsh soil at the Millennium Stadium

Those 3 for sure and John Nicholsons death

Was outside Gym waiting for PE at Danum when Eddie B I think it was broke the news. I was devastated !

Birmingham (Leicester) game I decided to get away for 3 or so hours as we would either go down or stay up and I did not want to "agonise" and so went to The Old Horns Inn at High Bradfield and walked 3 or 4 miles. Then I had food and a great Pint. I timed it so I got another Beer at Half time as they had SSN on inside. I almost got away with it but I heard 0-0 and was "elated" - then cleared off

I told my Mate to text me the words Wolves or Scunny at the end and I would then "know" and not far from Hillsborough came the Text. Wife looked and I said well ? Scunny says she - damn.

2 Minutes later came a second Text - giving me hope he had conned me and was now going to say lol Its Wolves really ! I would have done that t him for sure ! Wife gets phone and I was genuinely elated - and I said well ? well ?. Birmingham scored with the last kick off the Match. Double damn

John Nicholson was also a leg pull or so I thought. The bloke opposite me was a Fireman and he was always pulling my leg. Rovers related usually. Stand at Town End has burnt down he says - ha ha pull the other one says I - of course it had

So early one morning he came off nights and was trying to convince me that JN and AJ had been in a terrible Car crash and one was dead the other critical. I just would not believe him no matter what he tried but once again unfortunately true - still a very sad time

Missing (as I have posted endlessly) the 10-0 Darlo game though that is a personal misfortune unlike JN's early death

I'll agree with all of the above.
The most recent for me was Rochdale away last season when they equalised  in the 98th minute when the game should have been over.
I was raving mad. Knew we were relegated then.

Selfishly it was the Leicester away game. Got drunk on thinking we were going to be safe after all. Fool.

Hearing of the John Nicholson and Alick Jeffrey car accident.
Close of 1997-98 Season.
Missing the 1966 World Cup Final. I was off the Norwegian Coast listening to a very bad radio transmission, felt very homesick.
The departure of Laurie Sheffield was a low point but we got him back and he's still with us at The Keepmoat.

I remember being devastated when Penny was sacked. First manager I can recall getting the boot. Very mixed feelings after Billy scored 'that' goal v Boro.

Mid nineties Shrewsbury away in the league cup first round? Drew first leg 1-1 and they had a man sent off early on. Drew second leg 0-0 and again they had a man sent off early on . Rovers dominated but kept trying to walk the ball over the line instead of shooting. Went to extra time but we lost on away goals

Only major time I have heard racist comments from rovers fans to their own players

Long trip home on a Tuesday night. Also on the pitch against Colchester but the damage had already been done at that point

Other low point was Leicester away - relegation was put into perspective by the collapse and death of Ray Dunning RIP. I travelled to the game alone and was invited to a colleagues leaving do all day bender the next day. I just shut myself away and didn't want to mix with anyone

Bound to be low points in the future but doubt anything will match that for me

A few, that's for sure.

1-2 v Notts County in the relegation from league season, 2nd to last home game..I couldn't bring myself to go to the last one.

More recently the 1-4 at Barnsley against their 10 men.

Still not over the Hartlepool one yet...it may rate up there for financial reasons

Gilberto Silva. That's all I need to say.

Where did Dowd get that extra time and why didn't Heffernan hold the ball in the corner. I was watching Wenger and he had given up i suppose in Mourinho's eyes i would be 'a voyeur watching a specialist in failure'!

A game turned in the dying seconds by a World Cup winner??

Each to their own, but surely the low point to that adventure was the following fixture on Boxing Day at Forest being thumped 4-0 and their fans singing "you're not famous anymore"..??

Losing 2-1 at Drill Field to Northwich Victoria. Ian Snodin picked the smallest front line probably in Rovers history with Watson, Goodwin and Caudwell. Mark Hume came off the bench to add some height and muscle but it was too late.

Sat dejected on the terrace with my mate, looking at Northwich's Kop which was about 30 fans huddled under a bus shelter, Rovers sat just above the Conference relegation zone I said "Surely we cant get any lower than this can we!?"

Thankfully, we didn't. Literally the lowest moment!
