The ghost of Belle Vue
« on May 13, 2017, 12:10:51 pm by VivaRovers »
Apparently, Belle Vue was haunted. The Main Stand specifically. That's the view of one of our fanzine contributors and he's sticking to it.

So, can anyone else corroborate this? And we're not talking about gypsy curses or owls or owt here - we've done that. I mean ghosts, spirits that kind of thing.

Anyone?

You're thinking of the ghost of the racecourse

I do genuinely remember reading about a supposed ghost at Belle Vue a few years ago, so I don't think James is making it up. I cannot for the life of me remember any more details though, I think Ken Avis was mentioned in the story I read on it. I take it you've dug through Google to try and find info?

I've heard there were sightings of a few spirits in the dressing room around the time Alick Jeffrey played.

Someone told me that former Rovers player Dennis Peacock was a medium who could tune into the spirit world. He was quite renowned for contacting spirits and holding their attention, keeping them 'in the room' long enough for many people to witness the event.

Apparently, he was one of the best ghoul keepers in the country at the time.

It's called Hakan Heyrettin. Lots of claims of a sighting but no definite proof of him ever being in the dressing room.

Dunno about a ghost in the Main Stand.

I realise that this will sound like complete b*llocks, however, I vaguely recall hearing/reading something about the ghost of Alick Jeffery apparently stopping an opposition goal! I can't remember when it was but it was a 'big' game in the last few years at Belle Vue and it seems that our opponents had a shot, it evaded the keeper and the ball was heading for the net when a gust of wind literally blew the ball out again before it crossed the line!! For some reason (it may have been shortly after he'd died) some folk took it that it was King Alick giving the Rovers one last hand!

I'm sorry I cant share more than that but I definitely remember hearing about it!!!

It was in a rovers programme somebody saw a player in the dressing room from down the corridor he was wearing the old type shirt. Whoever it was thought at first it was a player then realised there was nobody else there. They went towards it down the corridor went through the door and there was nobody there. I seem to think was Richard Bailey who wrote about it the community coach come to think of it.

Like SC was king I remember reading a story like that before. Maybe some of our collectors could flip through their collection for you? Maybe try home games around Halloween as a starter? There actually used to be a poster on here called Belle Vue Ghost as well. Names like that tend to come after an article or event.
