Mr Smarmy has been sacked as a Sky pundit following conviction for assaulting his partner.

What a coward beating up a woman because he was nowhere to be seen if there was any trouble on the pitch - he came across as a bloke who wouldn't volunteer to hold coats if a scrap broke out

I wouldn't have said that. I met him a few times and he was always chatty and polite, although he did love the sound of his own voice.

Not a nice man. How many remember him picking up the plastic chair at the away end Glandford Park and thrusting it towards one of our fans legs first. Don't think he liked the remark. Could do with some lessons from Copp's.

So that just leaves Barry doesn't it, as the last remaining member of the hugely successful disco pioneers?

Just read the article.  He should've been sent to prison.

According to talk sport he is going to appeal the verdict and is still with the lady concerned.

He recently got done for drink driving as well. He apparently has hit the drink big time since his wife passed away.

Working in an industry that works with domestic violence I have no sympathy for the man and it is a measure of him that he can't even accept he commuted the offence. With that attitude he has little chance of changing either. It should have been a custodial sentence in my view but he was probably helped by the fact messi was his lawyer.

It's going to be hard for him to resurrect any semblance of a career in the public eye after this.

I am not condoning his actions but there has been cases where other people have done similar and still worked on tv etc.
Paul Gascoigne was high profile and he continued to get media work after allegedly being a wife beater.

Double standards from Murdoch when he elbows Beagrie yet promotes Rebecca Brooks.

And I imagine that Murdoch delivered him his P45 in person after making the decision himself to fire Beagrie.
