who would you rather have up front:

Mandeville OR Curtis Main

   :scarf:

We’ve got Mandeville and a midfield player if he plays two. We can’t do anything about that. Two strikers injured, one suspended and one long term rehabilitation.

Tonight’s game would have been hard with two strikers because we are not taking enough chances and letting in the odd goal.

Time for the midfield to show its attacking abilities.  Rowe, Kongolo, Whiteman should all be a goal threat.

Pompey fan here, remember posting during the same fixture last year where you beat us on telly.

Like yourselves, we've had a tough start to life in League 1, it's been way more of a step up than expected. Every team we've played, even the strugglers, have been better than any team in League 2 last year. We've recently started to gel, with a number of new signings getting used to the way the manager plays. Hardly any familiar faces from last year, only the centre backs and Kyle Bennet likely to start this evening. Curtis Main is injured, after making his first start of the season.

Overall, we've got a good balance. A tall striker, pace and tricks down the wings, and a solid, of not spectacular, defence. Matty Kennedy, on loan at Plymouth at the end of last year, is our danger player at the moment, with top scorer and Brett Pitman out injured. Our biggest weaknesses are Ben Close in midfield, who's struggled to make the step up, overplaying in defence and no backup in defence. If we get any injuries to our centre backs, expect to see our centre forward filling in.

Looking forward to tonight, should be a good game!

Your fans were a credit to the club as they usually are.  We’re you there?

I didn't go, have work tomorrow. All things considered, probably best for my health that I didn't!

That was a good win last night,Portsmouth looked a decent well drilled side, and I am not surprised where they are in the league.
They looked strong down the middle  at the back and the wide players looked useful.Bennet  played exactly how he did for us,always looking as if there is a good player in there but never achieving anything, the substitute looked far more dangerous.
Our back three played very well, and kept the service and the chances to a minimum for the big centre forward.
We did miss the hold up play and threat that Marquise gives us up front, but the work ethic of the whole team pulled us through, and this game proved to me that Tommy Rowe is wasted out wide.
The little cameo from Beestin near the end showed a lot of promise, and the game should have gone a long way to prove that our squad is not quite as thread bare as some on here would have us believe.

Beestin played with a lot of heart and plenty of desire, which you would expect of a young lad in his first game this season. I wish he could transfer a bit of that enthusiasm to Mande, who, for me, still looks a little short in both stamina and determination. His second touch was usually a slide tackle last night and thankfully for the goal he only needed one touch, such was the quality of Rodney's cross. Still, he has time on his hands, and there's plenty to work on.

Talking of crossing, we noticeably changed our style in the early part of the game, where we were getting crosses in early and causing problems. However, after the 2nd goal went in, we seemed to go back to the painfully slow build up and mistakes started to creep in. We have to get out of this nasty habit of seemingly going for safety. Keep the tempo up and we will pick up a few more much-needed wins.

The crowd was good for a midweek game aided by a great turn out from Pompey, and they created quite a bit of noise throughout the match.
At a preseason supporters meeting it was said that an average of about 7200 would be break even level and we may not be far off that up to press.
A decent cup run would be welcome  this season or am I asking for the impossible.

Pompey have appealed Donohue's red card, strange decision imo as he definitely kicked out and was seen by the fourth official and the TVs cameras.

It is hard to imagine how they are thinking here.
Clearly the player kicks at Mason and the fact that he missed is irrelevant.

Jackett said after the game he had no complaints about the red card so that's a strange U-turn.

Absolutely ridiculous. How on earth could they rescind that?!
