Ok Brian well I was too young to remember the Hungarian, but Jimmy Johnstone well he was one of my all time favourite players.
As you know I was at Elland Rd that night also in April 1970 and Johnstone made Terry Cooper look like a non league player.
That Celtic team was some team and how they didn’t beat Feyenoord in the final I will never know.

So my best team of players I have seen PLAY LIVE would be.
1962/63 to 2017/18

1 Shilton
2 Reaney
3 Sansom
4 Bremner
5 Charles
6 Moore
7 Johnstone
8 Greaves
9 Charlton
10 Cryuff
11 Best

Subs. Jennings, McFarland, Pearce, Madeley, Giles, E Gray, Law.

By heck that was tough as I have had to leave out some fantastic players .
Just my opinion and many would disagree but I would rate Shilton and Jennings just ahead of Gordon Banks as good as he was.

Tarkovsky, I think with most of the teams picked including yours, a manager would just tell the players to go out and play.
Schnellinger and Overath, now they were two fantastic players, I was lucky enough as a youngster to watch England v The Rest of the World at Wembley, what a day that was, only Pele, who was injured was absent out of the greats of the time, and England in the  60s were a match for anyone, Yashin played the first half and was fantastic, Law  and Baxter came on in the second half, and likewise were brilliant.

I would like to throw in 2 inside forwards , John White ( Tottingham ) and Zoltan Varga of Hungary .
I only saw White play once  ( a 4-0 thrashing of Wednesday at White Hart Lane ) but did see a lot of Varga in his time at Hertha Berlin in the early 1970's . both were sheer class .

Never saw Pele play otherwise he would be in there .

Three players I never saw live that would have definitely got in my team are, Carlos Alberto, Maldini, Beckenbaur, & Pele.

Others I would have to consider would be Lev Yashin, Dino Zoff, Peter Schmeichel, Franco Baresi, Michel Platini, Paul Gasgoine, Roberto Baggio, Jairzinho, Gerson, Tostao, Rivelino, Diego Maradona
& Paolo Rossi.
Wow there were some wonderful players listed there, doesn’t half bring back some memories.

Some magical players being shared here. Out of all the players that I’ve seen live I’d have to say that Gazza in his pomp was the best. He could dribble, pass, score or tackle with the best of them. An absolute genius.

To my knowledge Best only played against the Rovers once and that was for Bournemouth at Dean Court in the early 80's.

Did he play for Stockport against us in the mid-70s?

Unfortunately not TRB. Rothmans shows that Best's 3 appearances for Stockport were against Swansea, Watford and Southport
