The bloke thinks we were 3 down in 20 odd mins, he's just jabbering rubbish to try and save face.

In another DFP article, he hits the nail squarely on the head.

“We have to compete, we have to win the second balls, we have to run more than the opposition, we’ve got to do the basics. “Walsall were comfortably ahead of us at all that. That was what was most disappointing.”

Bang on. Formations are meaningless when the players are as lethargic and slow to the second challenge as we were for the first 45 mins on Tuesday. You can line up in whatever formation you like, but if the players don’t put a shift in, you’ll get arseholed.

Well of course it is to do with systems because what happens is with the 3/5 we have the players in their wrong positions. Did he seriously think Kongola and Whiteman could cope in the middle of the park with Houghton in a three against there experienced midfield. If he did then he is not a football manager. Blair and Rowe were not in the game as an attacking threat until the last 10mins when we were playing 4 at the back and Tommy Rowe Still at left back. Oh by the way we were 4-0 down.
Brilliant.  :crying:

Right that’s enough ranting I need to get positive to encourage the lads at 3-00 pm.
I’m off in 15 mins.
I hope we are all applauding the team on here at 5-30 onwards this evening.  :rtid:

I listened to his interview and the being 3 nil down in 20 mins comment was the time between 1-0 and 3-0 I think.

Exactly right billy
Formations are irrelevant if players aren't going to run around and get stuck in,

Keeping their shape, and players defending their areas of the pitch is their first priority, and part of the managers job to designate.
Running and effort should be a given by all the players, and a minimum requirement.
For large periods of the game on Tuesday I could not see either leadership or effort, and that rankles with me.
Today we were completely different, and it started with the shape in defence, and players doing their job in their defencive areas.
