Third Goal Saturday
« on February 19, 2018, 08:56:37 pm by Donnywolf »
... that Copps turn is one thing I WILL remember for a long long time

However has anyone got the entire action on video as I was sure we mucked up the Free Kick and when I wrote the 250 Word Match Report I said so

I thought it hit Copps high up (shoulders / head) and then he chased it back and pulled that outrageous turn and made them look daft

Great to watch  :scarf:

If I remember it correctly, it didn't hit Copps. Copps didn't beat the one man wall for the free kick so he had to chase it back and then he turned.

Aye, Copps took a free kick from that side and the man in the wall jumped and blocked it. I believe it looped back over Coppinger's head so he chased it back towards halfway, did that wonderful turn to sell the opponent a house in Bentley, then crossed for Anderson to head home.

Almost. He passed to Rowe after sending the defender for a loaf. Tommy’s inswinging left-footed Cross was perfectly placed and paced for Anderson to divert goalwards with a flick of the heed.

How much would you give to see him repeating something similar at Rotherham and making them look very silly!

It more amateur closing down from their man than skill from Copps.

Great thanks. I knew it had rebounded but now I can see how it happened  - and as many times in the past I was "wrong"

Still it produced a Goal in the end instead of ending back with Marko M !

Thanks again

No credit to Copps then for having the vision needed to see that option and execute it.
We were 2-0 up and the easy, safe option was to play it back. 30 seconds later we are 3-0 up and the game has been put to bed.

His twist and turns in the box on the other side of the pitch was more impressive. I've never seen an entire defence sent the wrong way from one body swerve before!

Copps has shown some tremendous skill in his time here, but am I the only one who isn't particularly impressed by that?! The opposition player just charges past, Copps hasn't had to be clever or cute to sell him a dummy.

We have seen Kongolo play a shocking ball back to our defender on halfway in the past which led to a goal, was it Exeter last season?
If you look closely, besides the player Copps bamboozles, there is another player racing to halfway to pressure the defender who would have received the ball if Copps had played it.
Had he played the ball to our defender then there was a likely chance that Fleetwood could themselves have had a scoring opportunity.
The skill wasn’t just in the turn by Copps but also in having the vision to recognise the potential danger in passing back.

It was against Walsall, Hound. Kongolo didn't play for us last season.

I looked at the clip on the link earlier in the thread.

I have to disagree, this was a nice piece of skill, despite the Fleetwood player not being as close as I had thought from my view sat in the east stand.

Not only did Copps not have the opponent in his field of view, he was also close to the filled in sink hole.  He couldn't have known how far away this opponent was.

Also, look at the free kick routine, haven't we seen that before but with a more successful result?

And then they'd be over the half way line.
And away from a defender.
And round the goalkeeper.
And off wheeling away in celebration
ANDERSON with the interception!
