Baudry again
« on April 19, 2018, 08:32:24 pm by BillyStubbsTears »
It’s only just dawned on me that we had another poor result on Tuesday with him absent.

The record with and without him playing is quite extraordinary.

With.
P16 W8 D6 L2 PPG1.88 equal to top 3 finish over a season.

Without
P25 W5 D9 L11 PPG 0.96 equal to bottom 2 finish.

He has now played in less than half our league games this season. Either injured or out of favour (again). All very odd.

I am sure that will be in DF's thoughts when it comes to offering him a new deal, that is if Baudry wants one. He may well make a difference to the team but,

a) if he wants pastures new, we can't do much about that, and
b) if he does indeed want to stay then his injury record, with us, is not good.

One thing, for me, he is a better defender than Boyle, but is he better than Anderson? The best thing for the Club is that he stays and we also manage to sign Anderson. We would have 4 decent cb's going into the new season and with Andrew back, hopefully for a full season, the defence would be more or less sorted.

Interesting in that old thread people are singing the praises of Blair at full back.

But he played well frequently at full back last year. This year he’s been against better players and on the back foot a lot more, and it’s shown he’s out of his depth there at this level.

He's on a scouting mission.

24/7 sat on football manager. He went quiet around the time of the latest edition was released.

I agree, just thought it was interesting how well he did there last year and not so this year.
May be a variety of reasons why

Baudry’s only played 39% of our league games this season. But we’ve won 56% of our points in those games.

Makes you think.

It makes me think that he doesn't play enough games in a season!

The manager not picking him as a starter, can be blamed for him missing a number of games this season.

Like when returning from injury Selby
He did have a few games on the sidelines but we were doing ok then (I think - it seems an age ago now)

He was out of favour for a bit but yes he needs to play more games. Hopefully he gets a contract because he's such a good player, and then goes on to prove his fitness.

I think people do seem to overly criticise the amount of time he spends out with injury though, when McCullough doesn't seem to get as much criticism even though he spends far more time out.

I think McCullough gets the same treatment. He's played fewer games than Paul Keegan did!

Might go against the grain somewhat but I don't think Baudry's 'contact' defending is all that great. By contact I mean throw something at them and they'll block it/send it back in the other direction. I think Butler/Wright (and maybe Anderson) are all better in this area.

But he's much more effective at football on the ground or anything that requires a bit of mobility. Also, whereas Butler/Wright will tend to lump a ball in general direction, you can see Baudry looking to pick out specific men (usually his mate Marquis). He also has the occasional run out from the back, which seems to be rarer this season for some reason (maybe under instruction).

I agree with that, Butler and Anderson are out and out defenders, win everything in the air, clear their lines first and foremost.
Baudry is a footballer, decent on the ball, he’d much rather keep the ball in play cut inside and find a man rather than reaching row z.
I think that’s why fergie prefers playing him when we’re playing 3 at the back.
Saying all this though you can’t argue with the stats regarding games we’ve won with him playing and the games we haven’t when hes been absent

If we are to have 4 centre backs season, then Baudry also gives an option as cover for McCullough, Mason and possibly Houghton in midfield. There may be lucky times when all 4 CBs are fit and two won't be playing.
