I really do feel Grayson would be a good choice, hope he’s applied.

His record for what our aims are is clearly strong.

Grayson wouldn’t be the worst but I don’t really like his football. Get it wide and get it into the box.

You don't remember Billy Bremner then??

Borderline racist comment too - surely we want the best available man for the job we can afford, irrespective of nationality?

That is a style we haven't had for a very long time. I must say whilst Grayson isn't my favourite bloke in the world I think he does tick a lot of the boxes. And Snods coming in with him would really help get fans onside I reckon.

Stuart McCall is someone else I do like. Knows the region, has contacts around the UK and has done a decent job at Bradford as well as Motherwell. He was in the running for the Scotland job after Strachan left I believe.

I’m on McCall. Smashed the price in.

I've always been suspicious of McCall's pot-belly. In fact, any manager with a pot belly. Who was the last great manager with a beer gut?

McCall doesn’t have the class required to lift the club to the next level ....but he’s cheap so it’s a shoe in .

How do you know he's cheap?

Does anyone know what the salary of a L1 manager is likely to be?

Whoever gets it will be labelled the cheap option, because it suits the narrative.

Why do we want to appoint any of these managerial underachievers who have been sacked by every club they have ever managed? McCall Grayson Rosler Megson etc etc

I think if you are looking for us to appoint a manager who has never had the sack you are in for a very long wait.

Shankly and Paisley are dead I think.

Given we are not in a situation to recruit a SOD type dream manager, I would say attributes for me are going to be:

- ability to organise and insert backbone
- motivational figure
- keep youth system moving

I would honestly say good football but we have to be realistic with what we can expect. So long as it is better than Dickov then I will be happy.

I would add being known for playing attractive football is key too. The football in the main last season was awful to watch

That last sentence is interesting to read.
Quite a few people are now saying that but if anyone dared to mention it last season they were quickly berated by a few posters.

Do you mean the dumb, thick, petulant, ungrateful spoilt kids who were just spoiling for an argument?

Are they the ones daring to mention the awful football or the ones doing the berating?

We don’t seem to have any coloured players on our books , is that not unusual. Hi McCall would find that a bit odd after coming from Bradford.

With this Board, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest!

Haven't got a scooby who could be good, bad or indifferent managers.

Alan, you've posted some stinkers on here, but this takes the biscuit.

I don't ever remember us having a blue or green coloured player? What colour we talking about?

Looking beyond the coloured/black mistake in language, I have found it a bit puzzling in recent years that we do have a notable lack of ethnic diversity compared to other teams.

So a Paki, a darkie and a Jew walked into a bar.

EDIT: Sorry! Sorry! I thought for a moment we’d gone back to 1973.

I’ve thought that as well. Kiwomya is the only black player isn’t he?

Depends if you count Evina is a player or not (for now). I certainly wouldn't so I can see where the confusion comes in.

We had plenty of coloured folk around last year.

Kongolo looked a bit green.
Williams was yellow.
The fans were blue.
Ferguson’s mood was generally black.

Well people born in Liverpool and Birmingham aren't of another race so that was a f**king stupid thing to say. Taff is the Welsh equivalent of Jock is it not so it's not exactly any better is it?

Ooh I bet you miss the days where we could tell jokes about them Irish.

BPool.

There's a dead simple rule of thumb.

If the name is meant as a slur or an insult then it's offensive. If it's not then it isn't. And if the name has has acquired offensive connotations because of the way that other people use it, then you using it is, by association, offensive. Equally, if a group of people dislike being called a particular name then by definition, using that name is offensive.

So:
Paki is offensive.
Auusie isn't offensive.

Scouser isn't offensive.
Paddy is offensive. As is Taff. Because they're intended to imply that those people are somehow inferior to English AND because it's clear if you speak to most Welsh and Irish people that they find those names offensive.

It's really not hard if you just stop and think about it for a minute. But there's bits round the edges - Jock, I think, is considered less offensive by Scots and doesn't carry the same offensive connotations as Paddy or Paki.
