If Gavin Strachan
« on June 21, 2018, 05:09:10 pm by selby »
Was to be named as our new manager, would you be disappointed?
I would personally quite happy with him, How would you feel about it?

I don't know enough about him to make a judgement.

1. Has he applied
2. The strength of his skills and knowledge
3.How well he is respected by the players and staff
4. The depth of his contacts within the game
5. His aspirations.

Without doubt the same people who would see it as a cheap option must have also disapproved when JR appointed Dave Penney.

I'd be disappointed the time it's taken but I'd rather someone kind of unknown than the usual tried and failed suspects.

He is more than capable and has the respect of the players . If he stays even under another manager it would be a sensible fit .

If he was seen as the best option to take the club forwards when compared to other applicants, I'd be okay, not excited. He will have a lot of plus points in some areas, certainly is lacking in some experience, but who knows.

If he was and had a bad start I'd think his days would be numbered very quicky.

The club are very pleased with his contribution over the past few weeks. He does see his role as an assistant manager though, and I do believe he didn't make an application for the senior role. I'm sure the club are looking for him to continue in his role.

The fact that the club issue a statement that Asst Manager Strachan will be taking pre season training before the apointment of new manager might be a clue?

That was not part of the original question, if you want to pick holes answer the question.

The board have the confidence in Gavin to be part of a top six management, if he was given the top job then he would have proved to the owners and CEO that he was good enough to achieve their aims and aspirations. But it doesn’t appear that is going to happen as said above he is going to start the preseason process while the new manager is appointed.

I would not be disappointed with who ever the board pick, I will be disappointed at the level of players we bring to the club if they are not quality we need to achieve the boards aims this season.

A new manager will surely have his own assistant and if Fergie gets a new job he’ll probably want Strachan to go with him

So is one of the conditions of employment for the new manager that he has to keep GS and cannot bring in his own assistant?

I don't know if it is a condition of getting the job, but I am sure when the job was first advertised it was stated that the new manager would be expected to work with the existing staff.

Not sure why we would make the new manager work with an assistant they don’t know.
He will want his own

I am sure that was part of it they would have to work with all the back room staff which seems a little strange as all managers want there own number 2 and back room staff

Anyone other than me think he’s the reason 100s of the applicants haven’t been considered as they all probably wanted their own assistant?

Maybe a handful. Not 100s.

When umpteen managers are out of work that shouldn't, and didn't, put anybody off applying.

Of course not. Do you honestly think managers don't apply for jobs based on such small things? It isn't like we'd flat refuse a new manager bring in any staff either. I'm sure it's something all prospective appointments have had discussed with them at interview.

it would appear that it is not going to happen so the question is realy irrelevant, therefore doesn't need an answer either way hence the point I was making. If you and your mouthpiece think otherwise fine by me
