If you could choose one: Shacks or Ward?

After reading the news that:

'Coventry City defender Elliott Ward has returned to Coventry City at the end of his loan spell at Preston North End. It was confirmed last week that Preston boss Darren Ferguson will not be making a move to keep Ward at Deepdale for next season, with many Preston supporters decidedly unimpressed with his performances in the closing weeks of the season.'

It made me think; which would I rather have at the club. We can't be greedy and it's well documented that we're on a tight budget, but if you could choose, who would you have?

I'd rather have Shack. But if the question was \"Would you rather have Shackell or Ward AND Sharp?\" then I'd go for the latter. It depends how much we can afford to spend.

They were both quality for us IMO.

Shack is the better defender, but Ward is better on the ball which is a major advantage in our system.

If I were pushed, I'd say Shackell, but I'd be delighted if we signed either of them.

Is this in off topic, simply because it's been done to death on the normal area.

Shack every day of the week. More consistent and seen more of him. We can play football already IMO, we need to be mean at the back and let the rest do the more expansive footy. Shack was a winner at the heart of our defence, rarely got beaten.....just what we need.

Ward is good and I would gladly take both, but Ward was not here enough to make a decision. For every game he looked good, there was another where he was just average at best. It would be better to judge Ward over a longer period.

One has to chuck in the Martis factor and the fact we have retained/look to be keeping Hird and Locky. I cannot see us having 3 high earners at CH ie SM, EW and JS and then a further AL, SH. It would be nice, but our finances dictate this is highly unlikely.

As good a player as Ward is, personally I would far prefer Shackle. Rarely misses a header & is a leader.

Shackell is far more the most important signing for us IMO.  We look so much more comfortable with him in defence.  Commanding defender and we've missed that.

Save the money on Sharp, get Shackell in plus those two Scottish geezers, get Oster signed up, Brooker and Stock on the pitch and we're sorted.

Shacks. I was shocked at how good he is. Wins everything in the air, and he reads the game and covers the likes of Locky.

Shackell should be the defender we sign if he does not go to another club first, loan would be great, season long. Shackell and Ward both play left side of centre pairing therefore like Hird find it difficult to play on the rightside.

I'm sure Martis is a left pegger too. Maybe another reason (other than the obvious financial one) why we might not sign Shack and Ward, as that would give us 3 left footers. Maybe an in-balance there.
