Sorry if this has been posted before, but reading through some Rovers history yesterday, I was reminded of this interesting fact: in 1946 Rovers were involved in a match with Stockport County that lasted 3 hours 23minutes, and still remains the longest match in the world. In fact the game didn’t actually, officially, finish...........but see all the details here:

http://tdifh.blogspot.com/2010/03/30-march-1946-marathon-match.html

I was amused to read that they “instantly removed their shoes”after the game..........I assume that they didn’t wear boots in those days?  :)

A longer summary of several other Rovers weird and wonderful records can be found in Glen's Fanzine number 80 from 2016.

I knew that but when some managers have been here it seemed we played longer games than that, a lot longer

The club did a special program to celebrate the record, when we played Stockport more recently. Not sure if it was an anniversary or not.Think it was a game at Belle vue.
The articles about it makes really interesting reading,Parents ringing the club asking why their kids had not come home,Men going home to have their tea and coming back to carry on watching it! Etc.

Nothing special about going home to eat and then coming back.
We used to do it every weekend .........when we were kids.

Ask the score and carry on playing.

Action from that famous game at Edgeley Park in 1946. The Rovers player on the left is Cec Stirland, who was the landlord of the Hexthorpe House for many years.

Was a bugger if three or so went home at the same time and took their Coats - leaving only 1 post

Thanks, Dutch. A mate of mine has quite a number of Glen’s Fanzines, and he might just have No. 80.......hoping so!

He was running the Hatfield Chace in the mid sixties. He always seemed a really nice guy.
