I loved Mark Miller. He was the player I used to be in the yard if, to paraphrase Brian Glover, Ian Snodin was in the wash.

He was great in the 83/84 Division 4 promotion season. He could wreak havoc on the flanks- mostly wide right. He set up loads of goals for Ernie and Dougie. Got binned, and rightly so, for John Buckley the following season.

Thighs like tree trunks and the kind of haircut you used to see in the music videos on the screens in Camelots, The Archives, The Underground/King's Head and that place on the market precinct just up from Next whose name eludes me.  Ahhh, town in the '80s.

Buckley was something special but Miller, after the dross we'd had to suffer that previous season, was the business.  Ditto John Breckin, Ernie and the rest.  The one bloke that BB cut who I thought maybe should have stayed was Clive Wiggington.

But if we're talking about tree trunk thighs from that era, there can be only one winner: Steve Yates.

I always liked him. It was at a stage when we had a good run of wingers and they always were my favourites. Daryl Pugh, Mark Miller and John Buckley causing havoc on the wings. Its Millers birthday today as well.

John Buckley was a great player for us. I remember him ripping Reading apart during thier record breaking start to a season in the mid 80's (we still lost the game 0-1!!). Will also always remember Millers 'pop star' blonde locks!!! Mid 80's were my first seasons as a Rovers fan and still the ones I look back most fondly on.

Amazing that folk after watching season after season of Rovers still generally define themselves by the players they watched when they were nippers. For me Simeon Hodson, Steve Prindeville, Peter Heritage, Wade Falana, Paul Crichton, Stuart Hicks.
