Marks out of 10
« on September 22, 2012, 06:52:23 pm by Norfolk N Chance »
Woods - Best performance for Rovers signs that starting to demand his box - 7
Quinn - Worst performance, gave the ball away time and time again - 5
McCombe - Missed little in air but on the floor shocking - 6
Jones - MOTM - was great-  missed very little at the back and a threat going forward 8*
Spurr - Solid with some good throws which we were unlucky not to score - 7
Cotterill - Spirited and best starting midfielder - 7
Woods - seems to wants an earth to do things but ok defensive wise until injury 6
Sayers - mixed first 45 but looked alot more comfortable with Harper by his side 6
Bennett - very very predictable cutting in side everytime passing however reasonable - 6
Keegan - total spare part and extremely limited - 5
Brown - totally isolated and ineffective until Hume joined the game - 6
Husband - totally bossed the game - why does he not start ? - 7
Harper - passing very good and main reason we got act together in last 20 - 7
Hume - Breath of fresh air and worked his socks off - 7

Woods = 7
Quinn = 3 waste of a shirt
McCombe = 5 always going to be limited but steady enough with what he can do.
Jones = 8 Thankfully someone who walks the walk
Spurr = 6 He's got much more in the locker should he choose to use it.
Keegan = 4 another waste of a shirt
Woods = 5 Being played out of position - never been a central midfield player  - needs more time to get the ball on to his left foot. If he used his right he wouldn't have got crocked today.
Syers = 5 Not good today. Some poor passes but not alone there.
Cotterill = 6 Inconsistent as above.
Brown =  Poor service to him but scored from 1 of 3 opportunities.
Bennett = 4 Detention for the schoolboy.

Harper - 7 Should be starting
Husband - 8 should be starting
Hulme - 7 Should be starting

If Harper and Hulme are not match fit what the fook have the others been doing !!

Don't understand the Quinn bashing. Think he's looked a very solid and capable full back so far. Sure, he's no frills and isn't the greatest going forward, but he looks pretty sound defensively if you ask me.

Usually is a 7 out of ten but did he not give the ball away time and time again? Or was I dreaming?

It wasn't something that stood out to me, but I accept that not every aspect of every game sticks in my memory.

I've seen quite a bit of criticism of Quinn on here... not just today, but in previous weeks. I've been to every game so far, and I think he's done pretty well on the whole.

G.woods- did nothing wrong really today, one of his better performances - 7
quinn- passing was below average as was the movement- 4/5
jones- commanding performance, won 8/10 headers. solid again- 7
mccombe- too many long diagonal balls for me, okay defensively again- 5/6
spurr- didn't have the usual fluidity when going forward, okay defensively- 6
cotterill- some good runs with ball, ball into box rarely beat first man - 5/6
bennett- looked like a schoolboy making his debut, never looked a threat - 4
syers - ran hard but looked outnumbered in middle, not as many bursting runs in attack - 5/6
keegan - few good hard challenges, nothing special but did nasty job reasonably well - 6
woods - looked too comfortable on ball, few decent passes diagonal - 5
brown - too much weight on his shoulders, ball just lumped forward for him to win and then create his own chances, lacked support but worked hard - 6/7

subs:
husband - looked a threat, good pace and urgency to his play, crossing was reasonable - 7
harper - gained a hold in midfield and helped spread and stretch stevenage to create crossing oppertunities- 7
hume - good pace and urgency, closed down well. wore the shirt with pride putting in the effort - 7

thought overall worth the point. stevenage were organised at back and looked happy to soak pressure then catch us on break. we looked average in first half no quality in final third, second half saw us pass more instead of hoof ball straight to brown who looked isolated. looked better with hume and brown together.

Don't usually go in for this marks out ten stuff but...

Woods 8 - Looks like it was a confidence issue as he now looks like a proper keeper
Quinn 5 - Think it's been mentioned ha gave the ball away too much
McCombe 7 - solid
Jones 7 - ditto
Spurr 7 - unbelievable throw-ins
Cotterill 6 - nothing spectacular today
Bennett 4 - poor show from him today
Keegan 5 - sideways or dropped?
Syers 6 - did OK
Woods 7 - best footballer on the field, played out of position
Brown 8 - did his job very well, almost grabbed a spectacular winner

Harper 7 - windmill arms, crowd pleaser but did OK still
Hume 7 - should be starting
Husband 7 - never lets us down

Maybe Bennett's had his head turned by the interest from elsewhere?

I've said the same... Hardly a coincidence that he's stopped performing.

I reckon Jones could go up for president of America and win, he's that good!

Wasn't there today but I noticed that he's getting a lot of support form his back four. Not in footballing terms but in personal terms. They're encouraging him, advising him during the games. I think the new look back four, particularly the experience of Jones and Quinn, has helped Woods come on in leaps and bounds this season.

Woods 7 - OK except for one dodgy punch.
Quinn 2 - Shocking display. Kept up his "mistake every minute" of the game right up to the 65th minute when he faded.
McCombe 6 - solid but slow
Jones 8 - Only Championship quality player on show.
Spurr 7 - Solid
Cotterill 6 - average (just). Can't take decent corners.
Bennett 4 - On "definitely no Bentley for me" duty
Keegan 5 -  Got what he deserved.....subbed at half time
Syers 6 - OK.  Needs to get more involved
Woods 6 - Appeared to be playing in the back 5
Brown 8 - Worked hard all game
Harper 7 - Improved the situation when he came on
Hume 7 - showed a bit of fight and desire when he came on and got us going
Husband 7 - ditto

Solid at the back
Non-existent midfield.
Browny plowing a lone furrow up  front.
Can't take decent corners or free kicks.
Going to be a long season I feel!!

Demand his box? Did he go to collect something from the post office yesterday morning? He is commanding his box a lot better though and seems a lot more confident. The only thing I could fault him on was when he punched a ball under no real pressure at all. I thought he was sound on Tuesday night as well.

Woods 8 - Did everything a keeper should do, quick off his line, comfortable catching bar one punch and saved everything he could do.
Quinn 6 - Not his best game going forward but sound enough defensively really.
Mccombe 6 - Not his best game either but won near enough all he could.
Jones 8 - Dominated again, true leader.
Spurr 6 - Lots of long throws but a lot of poor crosses, but largely marked down because we expect him to be so good.
Cottrill 6 - Again our most creative and created the goal but he is hit and miss with his delivery, had he been at his best we'd have won yesterday.
Bennett 2 - One of if not his worst, just was not in the game and when he was he was easily pushed off the ball, must improve as he's capable of better.
Keegan 5 - Won some tackles but he has very limited ability bar that, better is needed on the ball at home, he's a useful asset away but at home not the man.
Syers 6 - Looked tired but worked hard at least and did well for his goal that probably should have stood.  Awful miss one on one first half though had to bury that.
Woods 5 - Poor again, biggest criticsm of him is that he has the balls and looks for the pass despite having open space.  Needs to run with the ball more often.  HAving said that, always wanted the ball and is probably played too deep, seems to lack confidence going forward, perhaps not surprising given his poor run with injuries, still not the same player but let's hope he gets there.
Brown 7 - Not his best either but much improved when given a partner and his work rate is never questionable.  Took his goal well but probably should have scored when the keeper saved his shot, needed to hit that better.
Harper 7 - Vast improvement on Keegan, controlled the midfield and allowed us to dominate possession second half, he should be starting if we're using 5 in midfield.
Hume 7 - Again changed the game when he came on, more energy and allowed Brown in to better goalscoring positions, must be due a start soon?
Husband 7 - Improved the balance despite being out of position and won a few free kicks.  Massively unlucky in that Spurr is very good and keeping him out, pretty sure he'd be in 90% of league 1 sides and a fair few Championship.  Tough one for Saunders this as he should be playing and starting.
