Now confirmed Sunderland have completed the signing of Will Gregg for £4m. https://www.wiganathletic.com/news/2019/february/will-grigg-completes-4million-move-to-sunderland-from-wigan-athletic/ (https://www.wiganathletic.com/news/2019/february/will-grigg-completes-4million-move-to-sunderland-from-wigan-athletic/) Can you imagine what his salary will be in league one?
Crazy amount of money for a league one team to spend - just shows unless you can compete with that kind of spending power you need a different strategy to get promoted. Spending £5ook here and £500k there is not going to make an impact.
McCans and the borads current plans to pick up players and grow them is the only way, we may need to be patent witht he squad - but it's the only way we will get back in the Championship. In the mean time enjoy the ride and don't get too over expectant this season... :scarf:

He scored 3 goals in the first 16 games in L1 last year.
He's scored 10 goals in 51 Championship appearances for Wigan.
Just sayin...
-
So, prolific then. :)
-
They did n’t want to splash that kind of money, their first offer was £1.25m, but after they were knocked back by every othe striker in the Country they got desperate and splashed the cash
-
Grigg was always their number one target, they just thought they could offer peanuts to us and we'd snatch their hands off!
Offer peanuts - get monkeys.
-
Wigan have properly lifted Sunderlands leg there..They played them like a banjo...lol
-
Paid absolutely miles over the odds for Grigg , a panic last ditch signing if ever there was one .
Defiantly not as good as Maja that's for sure who they sold to Bordeaux last week .
Signed him injured too , not expected to play for a fortnight minimum apparently .
I think Luton have had the best window myself , some astute signings there in my opinion .
The least said about our transfer dealings this window the better .
Underwhelming to say the least .
Well done on keeping Marquis by the way , tremendous boost I'd imagine .

Its only £4m if they get into the Prem.
-
1 million for his song plus 3 million for the player
-
so they made it my bank manager is potentially a happy man -
have a funny feeling though this Tottenham loanee could steal the show as the star striker (the odd one of you might recall Defoe going on loan to 4th division Bournemouth and scoring zillions after that Arsenal loaned Kevin Campbell (he's the one who scored 4 or 5 against Rovers in that Youth Cup Final 1988 think) got 9 in 16 as he pulled Orient into the play offs.
Yes it's much harder for a local lad to become a star at the top clubs
he came on as a sub in the Facup against Palace on Sunday and has a mighty 2 minutes plus injury time !! experience in the Champions League so he's no mug.
let's see what happens

just dawned on me the Tottenham kid must be worth over four million now if he was transferred anyone agree ?

I can see Luton winning the league now. I don't think that would surprise anyone.
Second place is up for grabs. I think Charlton will drop out along with Peterborough, although if Fergie is rejuvenated after his break, he might be able to get them going again, but I don't think it will be enough for automatic.
Barnsley. As good a chance as any. A bit of disruption in the window but they still have a strong enough first string.
Portsmouth. Another front runner but recent form suggests they were flagging but the new recruits could give them a lift. I'll reserve judgement until after tomorrow.
Sunderland. Should on paper achieve automatic but it's never done on paper and you wonder whether the self destruct button will get pressed. Spending £4m on a proven striker but, carrying an injury, makes me think it could all go horribly wrong.
Rovers. We've got some work to do to catch up and with the Cup run, we could have an intense period of games. Get on a run and anythings possible. On our day, we're as good as anyone. Tomorrow will be another marker of our intent. Will be happy to secure a play off spot and anything else is a bonus!

Campbell got three against our boys in the first leg at Belle Vue.
He was the difference between the sides, proven when he missed the second leg which was a 0-0 draw.

On fire I would say !

beating Sunderland in play off final at Wembley best scenario for me. with Marquis scoring the winner (titter)

We lost the first leg 5-0 and I thought Campbell scored all 5,he played the lone striker and all they did was punt it up to him all game, the second leg was 1-1 not 0-0.

I raise you beating Barnsley at Wembley that'd be the ideal outcome if we can't get the title
-
i am sure it was 6-0 at belle view and nil nil away
-
0-5 at home 0-0 away.
-
.......and Campbell got three, not five, in the 5-0.
The second leg was 1-1.
-
Campbell got 3 in the first game and second leg was definitely 1-1. I was at both games.
