Get a grip
« on August 20, 2011, 04:29:55 pm by River Don »
We're a small club fighting against the odds.

Every season we stay up is a victory.

We're punching way above our weight.

Keep calm and carry on.

YES  We're a small club fighting against the odds.

YES  Every season we stay up is a victory.

YES  We're punching way above our weight.

NO   We don't all have to accept watching the same tactics every week which quite frankly is getting boring.

The key for us is how to stay at this level. Our style has attracted the loans of Mason who seems to have shown he has learned something and is an asset, Milan who for me could be a star here this season, and Brown who can possibly come on strong too. Without this style, we won't be attracting them.

IMO the problem is when will SOD hot that extra level of inspiring players on the day? I think he has it overall, but that bit of fire and focus is missing. Also of course the defence is not working, same old problem of crosses and set plays.

Do we need to employ a specialist defensive coach because it's clear SOD and ROK simply do not possess these skills!! That's not a dig at them, simply an opinion!!

To be fair to Lee Butler though he has got a 41 year old to train and a 21 year old who has been thrown into a team that have a poor defence an very low on confidence!! Lee Butler by all accounts is a very good coach and from wot I have heard previously is a very respected coach in football!! :saywhat:

Actually that last post was slightly tongue in cheek but you are right. We do have real problems in defence and it needs sorting.

Wellred. U really are a plank. Never seen u write a positive post ever on here. Before today we'd conceded 4 goals against the 3 of the favourites for promotion. But we have massive defensive problems. Give over. Your views are ridiculous,

I don't agree with a lot of what Wellred says but to be fair have did you seen us for the 2nd part of last season and the start of the season, how can you say that we have not got defensive problems!! I rate Dumbaya highly when he is attacking but his defensive abilities seem to be worse this season then last year! Naylor has played too many games in such a short space of time and is clearly suffering from that!!

We have major defensive and goalkeeping problems!!

By the looks of it we really missed out not signing Joe Murphy in the summer, I think a commanding keeper who can deal with aerial stuff and do the rest is sometimes the difference, look at Lee Camp the other night. We have never looked good defending in the air and its something which will continue to be our downfall until we get a better keeper between the sticks.

At the end of the day, I would like to see what we would be doing with half of the injured players in the team, I imagine the league table would like rather different. JOC back in at right back, Stock and Woods back in the middle and Sharp and Mason back up front - with those lads in the team I don't think we would be sat here tonight on zero points.

It's hard, we have to be sustainable, there are too many local examples of how being not sustainable can cost you. We have a good squad, when fit, that is within our financial constraints, trouble is the injury crisis just continues and seems to gather pace. The other thing which is clear is how much Sharp means to the squad.

Buckle up and ride out the storm, I for one expect a good season once we get some players back. Give SOD a break for a change, you will all be moaning when he's gone and we end up with a replacement like Keith Hill or Andy Scott.

Look at how many players are out . Then look what we have on the pitch & where they all came from and what they cost us. The our clubs we have played have sold over & above 15,000 season ticket with plenty of money to spend. Let's just hope when our better players come back we are not two far behind to make it up. Note we have 10 players out just now.

Yes thanks, I've been to every game. Today we didn't defend well. But in the previous games this season we've defended a million times better than last year. You can't start going crazy because of one bad game. West ham and forest didn't create a chance other than the goals. Defence is fine, it's the other end of the park we need to be worrying about.

Peterborough are a small club punching above their weight as well, but look at their result tonight. That's because they've cleverly recruited the top players from the lower leagues and non-league, and they have given themselves a chance by signing dangerous players who can change a game and cause defences problems.

That's because you have selective vision Dick.
So we have massive defensive problems do we? OK tell me who is missing from our defence?
The only change I can see SOD making when everyone is fit is JOC for Dumbuya.
Even then more posters on here than not would before today's game  disagree and say Dumbuya should be our number 1 right back.
So tell me what do you think our starting back four would be when everyone is fit?

Get real! Didn't see Wayne Rooney at London Road tonight!

George Boyd, Lee Tomlin, David Ball, Paul Taylor, Lee Frecklington, Tommy Rowe, Grant McCann etc etc. All great attacking players for them, none of them have anything to do with Man United. They only have 2 players on loan from Man United, one is a centre half and one a midfielder.

I actually meant to write his best young players!! They are a team with the confidence of winning from getting promoted from last season, as with Southampton & Brighton!! You will always get that from teams that have just been promoted!!

On top of that George Boyd is a very good player as is Grant McCann!!

Look we was poor today all over the pitch. Its the first game we have played this bad. Its times like these when the brave come up trumps. Sheff u anyone? Sacked Hoofwell and looked what happened to them. I bet most Sheff u fans wish they stook with him. If and a big if we are still here after 10-12 games then maybe the time to panic. JR will stick with SOD and even if we do go down he will be our best chance to get back here imo.

Good sensible post again wizzie, some would do well to consider the parellels that they are advocating should happen.
We will ride the tide , soon have our first team out on the park and will pick up the necessary points to more than survive. B)
