u23s at the Keepmoat tonight v Aston Villa
« on January 29, 2020, 04:05:38 pm by selby »
Looking forward to this game tonight, and hoping to see some trialists  in the line up much like the side that played at Portsmouth last week.
Only now are we beginning to see the way that Darren Moore sees us progressing, and the number of players coming in for trial at this level and below can only show his ambition to strengthen the club from  the bottom up and through all age groups.
It also shows ambition of the players that they are willing to come and try and make a career at Doncaster Rovers, probably after being rejected at a higher level, but still have ambition to make it in football.
The standard of this cup competition is higher than the club played at in past seasons, and the players look to be benefiting from the experience, let's hope we can progress to the knock out stages, and a few supporters turn up to support the lads.

Will Cole maybe get a run out to get some minutes under his belt ? I think Blair would also benefit from some game time as he looked very rusty last night

Triallists A and C were wide in the 3 behind and triallist B was the middle of the 3 (and the pick of the 3). Good interplay between him and Watters for 2 of the goals.

Enjoyed that.

One left one right and one behind.
Trialist A right and Trialist C left
Trialist B behind Watters
All three good players for U23 with Trialist B the best good technical player and linked up well with Watters

                  Jones
Walker.   Horton.    Blaney.   Amos
            Greaves.   McGowan
    A.                  B.                 C
                    Watters

Hasani for Greaves
Gibbons for Watters
Smith for B

He did, but ably helped by triallist B’s clever set-up play.

Picked the young Villa lads off with ease and Max showed his pace and power at this level.

Trialist B (# 10) was an American called Dion , looked a very good player , played behind Watters in center midfield.

Agreed Alan.

All three trialists looked technically able actually but Triallist B was the pick.

I know I’m jumping the gun a bit here, but I would go as far to say he is the best lad I’ve seen play in that position for as long as I can remember watching juniors and reserve football. The only thing missing from his game was fitness and we could soon sort that out. Someone find the pen!!

I sincerely hope we get him committed to a contract. A possible diamond in the making.

I really think Watters could be the next proper graduate of our academy. Have we had any make it stick at Rovers since Paul Green? Watters seems to have all the tools and is close to the first team now.

Are any of the lads who played tonight the same as those who played at Huddersfield?

Walker possibly? Not sure.

Found the team sheet for Huddersfield game:

Team: Ben Bottomley, Elliott Walker, Nathan Dimou, Ben Blythe (C), Aziz Sankoh (Lewis Cunningham), Lirak Hasani (Josh Clemitson), Will McGowan, Liam Ravenhill, Owan Derrett (Marius Conradi), Jack Watson, Junior Smith (Luca Nelson). Unused Sub: Kian Johnson.

Elliot Walker and Will McGowan played tonight and Junior Smith came on as a 2nd half sub.

Just reading up about Jack Storer.... Looks like a massive hot head but a lad with a lot of talent... Would need to be man managed really well but could be a good player if he got his head down...

Not sure , but looking at some google images , it could be.
