Rovers Classic Games
« on March 21, 2020, 04:23:08 pm by TommyC »
Apologies if this has been posted or suggested elsewhere. Ignore if so!

I find myself sat here on a Saturday afternoon thinking how great it would be to watch a classic Rovers game. It might even create a bit of banter on here. Especially the 80s and 90s stuff! We don't just want to see the cup finals and the glory games (maybe start with those though). We want to see some of those classic games and incidents that we laugh about now.

So my question is do we even have the ability or the legal right to the archives to show these games and stream them on a Saturday afternoon? I'd pay good money to sit down at 3pm for a classic rovers game for a good few months. May make the Saturdays a little more bearable!

She must be hard to please Andy if 5-1 isn't enough.

Rovers 2-1 Bournemouth 1981 promotion game. I don't think I've ever seen anything from that game since the day I was there.

I’d love to watch the game v (I think it was) Norwich, back in the Championship season, with Stock, Wellens, Hater in their absolute pomp. We beat them 3-1 was it? For large parts of the game, they couldn’t touch the ball -our passing was that good. It was an absolute joy to watch that entire game, much like our goal we scored at Leeds, with a million and one passes before Billy put it away!

To be fair a cool night on the Rosso end is a hard sell. Been to a good few at KM though.

The 1-0 game against QPR in the Cup

Have a video of that- however poor quality as it was filmed with the sun directly into the camera. One newspaper called David Harle Duggie or similar I recall?

Pretty sure I have that very newspaper article in an old scrapbook somewhere, with a really grainy picture of all the lads deservedly having a beer in the big old team bath after the game

Copps’ other hat trick that night..

Beating Wednesday at Hillsborough 2-0.. we were under the cosh for the first 20 mins or so but I was never worried that we wouldn’t win as we were so comfortable on the ball..

Played them off the park for the rest of the game..

It was the Sunday People, and it was a piss take by the Rovers players,it was on the back page something like “David Harle and the Rovers players celebrate beating QPR” . Big picture on the back page or just inside of David Harle , but it was Douggie , 98% of the country would have thought that Douggie was David Harle.
For those under 35 who never saw him play Douggie was never the greatest player but he always gave 110% , if you imagine the popularity of Copps + Alfie May times 10 for the 2000 or so that was there every week you might just get close . Legend
