Another good win for the U16s
« on September 08, 2019, 05:23:20 pm by selby »
At Rotherham United 4-2 taking their chances well, in an otherwise quite even game.
Like at Barnsley last week they went behind to an early goal, the Rotherham midfield player picking the ball up forty yards out, and had a great run through the Rovers defence to finish well.
The Rovers got their game together, with the midfield getting a grip on the game and by half time led 2-1 due  to a penalty when the Rotherham goalkeeper rushed out and clattered a player on the edgo of the box, which was coolly dispatched sending the keeper the wrong way, and a tremendous strike by the Rovers striker, controlling the ball and hitting a screamer from 25 yards on the turn.
The second half started with the Rovers somewhat lucky to get away with a couple of scrambles in their own goalmouth,  after making some changes at half time, took time to settle into a rhythm, but extended their lead when the substitute striker hit a rocket shot into the roof of the net again from outside the box
Just as the Rovers looked to be controlling the game, Rotherham cut the deficit with a well worked and taken goal and then almost equalising but for a fantastic save from the Rovers keeper.
The game was settled when the Rovers got on top again for a couple of minutes, the ball bouncing about the Rotherham penalty area and eventually being forced home from the edge of the box.
So this age group were able to come away with another victory, their eighth out of eight including pre season friendlies, not a bad start to the season.
An u17s side will play Sheffield Wednesday on the 3G pitch at the Keepmoat on Tuesday 7PM kickoff, in a prestigious cup competition, which will be a step up in class for them, and a test. Anyone who fancies watching, I am sure the boys will be pleased for your support, if you fancy a free couple of hours entertainment get down.  If the weathers warm, looking through the netting, you could imagine it  being like  in Spain watching Barca.
