James Maxwell
« on May 08, 2024, 02:21:17 pm by GazLaz »
What a player this lad is. He has been the best LB in L2 this season. If I was a Championship club I would be putting a bid in for him. It wouldn’t surprise me if that happens.

Him and TLT, position for position/ like for like, have been our best players this season.

I like him but despite us winning both games he was given a torrid time in both recent Crawley and Colchester games.  It was only their inability to get on the end of their crosses from our left that kept us out of deep trouble.

The lad is a cracking player. No coincidence that the wheels totally came off last season when he as injured.

On the ball he is quality and some of his 1-on-1 defending is brilliant. Only 22 and has such a bright future.

Maxwell has been superb, and one of the few players who looked good (before his injury) when the team was struggling badly as well.

Hope someone comes in for Whiteman. Looks a diminishing prospect though of getting any more cash out of him.

I was critical of his defensive awareness and he was a bit lightweight when he first came but he has considerably improved in both those aspects. Agree, best left back in the league.

If we can’t keep hold of him, how much would he be worth…400k?

A substantial fee and, importantly, a future sell-on clause.

Got to give credit to the club for bringing him in and also for agreeing a new contract before the interested parties start bidding. Excellent work.

Worth more than 400k. A lot more I’d say.

Taking his age and contract length into account if we do get promoted I think a fee anywhere between 850k-1.3m in todays money would see him go this summer

Jesus wept. As soon as we recognise a players talent, it's like we can't wait to cash in.

I wanna see him play many more games in a Rovers shirt but at least we have some protection should the vultures come circling.

He’s playing L2 no way anyone is paying 1m for a left back in this division. If he proves he is one of the best in L1 then there’s a chance.

We do need to get better at monetising our players and subsequently replacing them to help fund a higher quality playing squad without relying on Terry to back roll us to such an extent.

Agreed. Joy to watch going forward. Only going to improve defensively. I actually think McCann at one point preferred Senior over him. Senior nowhere near the same output going forward. Probably on par currently defensively. What's the stats on that? Probably turn out I'm wrong there. Usually when someone is so good at one thing you automatically just think they're not that good at something else if it doesn't stand out or hit you in the face?

A shoe in at left back. As is TLT, Wood, Ironside, Sterry, Molyneax, Bailey & Adelakun in their positions.

It’s been a real ‘coming together’ that has made good players turn into a good team.

A very good team.

Numbers-wise Maxwell is one of the best at both attacking aswell as at defending, not just decent at one.  He's the complete package. Seniors defensive numbers are decent but Maxwell slightly shades it between the two.

agreed,   the first 11 picks itself these days, and have been incredibly robust for months!!!!  which is the first requirement for a successful side....

A bit like it used to be in the sixties Adam.
Virtually the same eleven on the pitch every match.
