If he goes we are up shit creek without a paddle, unless with the money from him and Stock we sign them CB's from Stevenage.

If Friend goes we have as centre backs Wakefield (Saunders has already said he is going out on loan next season), Beye (not keen on being here) and Jimmy (one of the players we are actively looking to offload).

I am not of course counting Martis as he will be injured for the majority of the season.

Oh dear, this is what I'm fearing most. Are clubs going to come in late for all our high earners. Let's hope DS really does have a name for every position he wants to bring in, and let's hope he's spoken to them already so we can get signatures as a matter of urgency when/if we do sell.

I will be sad to see Friend go though!

It sounds like MR Goodwins had a telling off for jumping the gun.

Doncaster Rovers FC ‏@drfc_official
@paulgoodwinDFP The club have had no offer for Friend and the player has not been contacted. It is all speculation

Reading between the lines there, it does seem that there has been discussion between the clubs (although no formal offer yet) and as there is no formal offer then this has not been put to Friend (as is normal practice). Err, which is basically the thrust of the DFP story.

Said it until I am blue in the face, our defence over the last four or five seasons has largely been an absolute joke. We need to build from the back. So far we have signed a winger, an attacking midfielder and a striker. What we actually need is a keeper and at least two centre backs (who can defend and stay fit for more than two consecutive games). Let's worry about whether they can actually play football later.

EVERYBODY PANIC!!!

The lack of transfer activity is a bit of a trend in our league. Aside from the odd exception (e.g. Preston) most of the teams in this league are yet to wrap up their transfer activity.

Look at Walsall, they've got fewer players than us. Sheffield United have only made one signing, and Danny Wilson says he doesn't even know what his budget will be yet! And Portsmouth are in a really dire situation. They've got ten players on the books, all of whom are for sale, and can't really do anything until they've shifted them - they'll need some luck... who is going to be daft enough to release Tal Ben Haim from his long-term, £40k p/w contract?

Spurr next?

Apparently Saunders is desperate to keep Spurr here & wouldn't be surprised to see him be made captain.

TWEET:

paulgoowinDFP: Dean Saunders has admitted he's had a couple of enquiries about George Friend. That first domino is slowly starting to drop. Very Slowly.
