"@paulgoodwinDFP: Saunders: “This group of players want to fight for the club. In the past we had players who went missing.” #drfc"
"@liamhodenDFP: Dean Saunders would like a club from L1/L2 as he'd like Rovers to go as far as they can. Agree with Dean or do you fancy a big club? #drfc"
Id rather have a big side away to add to coffers, we know we arent going to win it so may as well pull out a big team out of the hat
-
To add to the coffers significantly we need a Prem side at HOME and the game to be TELEVISED.
2 conditions need to be met for us to make the most money from R3.
-
We wouldn't get on tv if we were away to a big side.
-
In a way a home tie gives us more chance of winning
Providing we dont go 2-0 down again after ten mins ;)
-
A televised game against a big Prem side literally means we can afford to get a new player in.
-
I agree.
Is R3 still seeded? If not and 2 prem sides get drawn together that will be nailed on to be televised.
-
I reckon we should try and go as far as possible, the big clubs don't take it seriously and field weak sides so no reason we can't do what we did a few seasons back. A good run would bring in more dosh in the end. Bring on Villa at home, they're crap at the minute...
-
If copps goes we can bring 2 in so not all bearing on the cup game
-
Sorry, who said it was ALL bearing on a cup run?
-
What are the money prizes for winning each round?
-
Lets get all nostalgic and dick Villa at home. I'm sure that would be televised given their current plight.
-
Arsenal, Spurs or Chelsea away for me, purely selfish reasons....
Actually, when is 3rd round due to be played?
-
Surely Man United away would generate a lot of money seen as gate receipts are split 50/50??
75,811
Old Trafford, Capacity
ticket price £20-52
Average for this lets say £30
Last year United vs Crystal Palace attendance 52,624
52,624 x £30 = £1,578,720
Is that better or worse than say man united at home and tv money?
-
t v money is approx 150k for home team

Don't think it is split 50/50 Dave.
I think it all goes into a pot and the FL takes a cut, then the rest is shared out.
-
Rob
Pardon my ignorance, but is this pot for all 92 league Clubs, or just those through to the 3rd round - i.e. 32 of us?
If the latter then surely this is good news already, for if by the above calculations Man U are at home and raise ca 1.5M, even if we only get 2% that is 30K before we have even counted all the other 15 ties.
If they all average say 15K and raise 450K a throw then there would be another 135K @ 2% making 165K before TV
Last year the average third round attendance was just short of 17K
-
All reciepts minus costs get put into a pot I think and shared between the clubs in that round.
-
Thanks Gaz
Of course I could be wildly optimistic about the 2% for Rovers (2% for each of the 32 plus 36% for the FL) ...... probably Premiership teams get ca 50 times more than Div 1 clubs if Sky shareout proportions are used...... :crying:
-
To answer the question about the 3rd round draw and is it seeded? The answer is no, so I guess we could be drawn at home to Burton or Swindon for example.
Oh and 3rd round matches are played week commencing sept 24th
-
Why not draw, Man City beat then on Pens, draw Villa just beat them, then take Arsenal to penalties. Think that sounds plausible to me.

Shouldn't we play Gillingham before Villa?
-
DS says he wants to WIN in the next round ...it's the right answer to the question ... it's just the question that's stupid ... Who do you want in the next round ... lazy journalists have taken us all over .... and how good is it to win ?... and how pleased are you to have scored .?..how disappointed do you think Hull will be tonight , FFS
-
A big club would be nice to ensure money for the club as well as being televised in the US! :)
-
There seemed to be a bit of a mixed message coming out of the club for the Hull match...
- You've got to come and support the team so that we can get through to the next round and earn big bucks
- We make 5 changes from the first choice team
Cynics would say that we expected to lose and just wanted to maximise income from this one game.
Fortunately, we won...so, do we want to progress or do we want a big payday?
-
I think we wanted to win, Gavin Baldwin was noted as saying a cup run could be enough to help us bring in 2 or 3 players.
A few of the changes were down to injuries plus we needed to give harper, Blake, Keegan an opportunity to get match fit.
-
I think that's right Dickos. Chris Brown has a knock, Paynter needed a rest. Benno has played every minute up until Tuesday, so bringing Copps in was the right call. It's only squad rotation.
Seeing as we won I think the decision on the side was justified. I certainly don't think it was a decision not to put our best side out, just an opportunity to give more first XI players a chance. Our squad is too thin to be thinking it was anything else.
-
paul goodwins just tweeted to expect at least one signing before tomorrows deadline as booard have released funds after being impressed by the start to the season. Hopefully it will be more than one coming in
:rtid:

If true, and we get a decent draw, we could fill necessary positions and still 'maybe' keep hold of copps.
Ain't life grand :scarf:
