Zambezi- not by The Piranhas
« on February 08, 2013, 06:30:07 pm by The Red Baron »
The other day I had the misfortune to hear "Zambezi" by The Piranhas- the lot responsible for goal celebration music up and down the country (Tom Hark). I seemed to recall it had been done a lot better some years ago- and indeed it had been. So here is Lou Busch and his Orchestra.

Rather good IMHO:

Here is the Eddie Calvert version:

Certainly better than The Piranhas, though I do like the Lou Busch reading.

My grandma had one of those record players!
Many happy hours in the 70s at her house listening to my dads and uncles 45s which they'd left at her house.
Seemed to span 1957 to early 1963 as I can remember From Me To You by The Beatles being in there.
Only a few of lps though including Cliff Richards debut simply called "Cliff". Well worth a listen if you can get hold of a copy as its him and the Shads in front of a live audience at Abbey Road. Some cracking rock n roll tracks-honest!

Never mind your granny, I had one like that in the 70's when I was a wee shite. That bad boy with the arm that could come across and held about 8 singles.

I then got a tape recorder that resembled in size, to a shoe box.

Looking back, I was pretty f**kin 'street' back then.

As for Zambezi, I don't think you should just dismiss Boring Bob Grover, so lightly. It was ok for the time

I'm 24 so I've never had the pleasure of listening too this catchy song, until, over the christmas period, someone put it on the jukebox in the pub, I mean someone actually spent their money on this track?! Like I said though, very catchy.
