Penalties

I recall at the start of the season that Mandeville was most people's designated penalty taker; given the miss last night and the fact he probably isn't a secure starter at the moment who would be your pick from 12 yards at the moment?

Coppinger took the one at Blackburn, I wouldn't have him anywhere near them though.

The thing is, when Mandeville was on the pens most people were saying how great he was at them.
Then he missed at Plymouth and the doubts set in.
He has now missed another and it is the end of the road for him (on pens)in some fans eyes.
All pen takers miss them at some time or another.
We were talking about who should take our pens a couple of weeks ago and there was a school of thought that, given the goalies now spend time studying penalty takers, it would be a good idea to just have whoever fancies taking it at the time taking it.
A regular taker may be having a bad day and be nervous about taking one a few minutes before full time that would rescue a point.
I have been on the pitch in just those circumstances.

Ha, Actually, yes I did.
It was an end of season game and we needed a point to take the title.
We got a pen near the end when one down and the lad who had taken them all season bottled it.
The captain asked who fancied it and I stepped up.

I took one once and I went to the other penalty spot to make sure that their keeper didn't save it
