I don't think I will be alone in hoping that you are safe in this terrible storm and that your homes haven't taken too much damage.

Keep safe and know we are thinking of you.xx

Thanks so much Jucy!  It's been quite scary over the last couple of days, first with the dire warnings, and then last night when it made landfall.  We are up-state a bit so luckily escaped the worst of it, but NYC is devastated and the images on the news are heart breaking, but I think all the early warnings and evacuations paid off in terms of people keeping safe.

Appreciate the kind thoughts!  :-)

Jenny, it will probably be ok by next week but haven't heard any info on how long it would take to get NYC back to normal, and if I hear from my sister who lives near Boston, I'll will post it here.

Poor old NY! If it's anything like New Orleans it'll still look like a war zone in 3 years time....

Cheers :)

Amazing that the news is focusing entirely on the USA East Coast and pretty much forgetting the devastation it has caused elsewhere.

I see Time Square's sponsors are getting plenty of TV airtime. Just how much devastation was caused there?

Fair point. More than half the people killed by the storm were in the Carribean. But who gives a shit about them?

Similar here. The Great Storm of 1987 is the one that's remembered because it shook up London. How many people remember the Burns Night Stirm 2 and a half years later, that killed 3 times as many people, did twice as much financial damage and had higher wind speeds? But didn't hit London as hard.

Just blown away Rene.....

110 people werekilled and 250 000 stranded in floods in Bangladesh earlier this summer, slightly less news coverage on that one too. The general rule of thumb is - the closer to where the main media cos are based anything happens - the more likely it will be covered.

Commiserations to all caught up in Sandy tho, it looks terrible.

It doesn't surprise me one bit.  East Coasters are like Londoners, full of their own perceived self importance.

I've always found the people of St Louis to be the worst in the world.

Interesting that.  I lived there for a year and never once saw anything that suggested they were the 'worst in the world'.  Maybe you should visit.  I live in Colorado now, a state that gets battered by the weather every winter, but you don't hear about it.  The people here just get on with it.

Bravo on yet another pathetic attempt at a reply.

There's nothing quite like a sweeping generalisation for riling an individual.
