Been trying to find a website or book without success of all the locos and carriages built in the steam era for GNR,LNER and BR at Doncaster works. Can anyone help please ?

Sorry, it's not really my field, but is there nothing doing on ebay or Amazon at all?

Or what about (rather looking for train related stuff first) looking at Doncaster books with some Plant works stuff in there?

Does York Railway Museum stock Northern place-related books?

The NAtional Railway Museum has tons and tons of books.  I went last summer with my kids, and had a ride on Stephenson's Rocket.  I cant believe they dont have exactly what you are looking for, but if they dont I bet they have a bloke who carries it all in his head you could talk to.

This might help

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doncaster-Its-Railways-Archive-Photographs/dp/0752406353

Think there's also a follow up book.

Or try the Tourist Info place in town (Blue Building) they have a good selection of local interest books

Thanks guys. Will go with the amazon recommendation. But Rob you mention York Railway Museum. Unfortunatley to some extent York has nabbed our railway heritage. To say the worlds most famous locos Mallard Flying Scotsman etc were built in Donny you would think would be swamped with books, dvds etc but unfortunatley it isnt the case. Compare this say to Robin Hood merchandice and its a niche area.
As an aside the iconic green of many LNER/early BR steam locos was called Doncaster green. Couldnt we use that as an away kit ?

Very true NNR. Doncaster produced most of the famous locomotives, and York made most of the carriages and wagons.

It would have been apt for the railway museum to have been in Donny, its natural geographical home.

Doncaster green would be a good choice of colour to be adopted by Rovers for their away kit, especially considering the club was started by employees of the Doncaster Railway Plant works.

what a brilliant thread i would love an away strip with doncaster green as the  main colour base. did not realise the colour connection what a great idea.
