Our midfield!
« on August 28, 2014, 10:00:49 am by rover-n-out »
Be interesting to see what PD does this weekend with Wellens back in the fold. If he puts Wellens straight in against Oldham, who do we think will be left out?
We have Forrester back as well ( I think), so if he plays a 4-3-2-1 formation, with Copps on the right and Forrester on the left, who fills the middle three places. Furman has been good in a more forward position leaving Keegs as the holding midfielder, with De Val roaming across the midfield. That's how I have seen things, but I'm no tactical genius, so maybe I'm wrong.
Given that, where does Wellens fit into this system, and who gives way to accommodate him. I know he's a great midfielder, and I'm delighted he is staying, but I have sympathy for whoever makes way for him as the team has played really well together since the Port Vale fiasco. But maybe PD will change the formation at home and try a 4-3-3 attacking line up, and fit Wellens into that.
Be interesting to hear your thoughts on this one. Thanks.

What about Bennett?? He will bring Forrester back, and drop either Furman or Keegan to the bench alongside Wellens

I'm not convinced that Wellens would be fit enough to start (though that hasn't stop him being played before), maybe bring him on for the last 20 minutes?

                                    STEER

WAKEFIELD        WABARA         MCCULLOUGH     EVINA

                   WELLENS           KEEGAN

COPPINGER                FORRESTER                   BENNETT

                                   TYSON

I would bet money on that if I could.
You would loose your money. Wellens wont be fully match fit.

Surely not match fit, no need to change a winning team in my opinion, unless there are fitness issues

At the moment I can only see Furman (improved as he has been recently) dropping out for Forrester.  I'd like to see Forrester play centrally with Copps and Bennett on either side.  Tyson or Robinson?  Seems to almost be a rotation at the moment but PD will know who "works" better with Forrester.

I can see Wellens on the bench.

What about defence?  Will McCombe or Jones play?  I don't know if Oldham have a height threat with their strikers or not?

It'd be interesting management if he drops players from a midfield that has just put in 3 excellent performances, in order to accommodate a player who had implied that the squad wasn't good enough for him.

Personally, I say Wellens has to force his way into the starting XI. It's not the worst problem to have.

Agreed, but we'll need to shift one out to include Forrester...

The same midfield will start, how can Dickov drop Furman after he's done nothing wrong?

What a lovely problem to have though after thinking our midfield would be wafferr thin. Bodes well for the rest of the season because at least 2 or 3 of them will get injured/suspended over the next few weeks/months so good to have options.

It may be that he can 'rest' a few - Furman put in quite a shift v Watford and Copps was everywhere in that game too. He may choose to rest Copps or Furman but probably not both. De Val came off for Wellens in the Watford match, so is he feeling the strain?
The last thing we need is more injuries, so PD has got an embarrasment of riches in midfield now that we have seen the light, contracts - wise.

The most important thing now is to stick with the formation that seems to suit ALL the players, i.e.  4-2-3-1 and forget about 4-4-2 unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

We need to be scoring more goals and Forrester is a big threat, which is why I can see Furman, or possibly De Val, making way.

I can see Forrester being picked as the striker and Wellens in Furman's role. And it makes me moist.

Wellens won't start. PD is a better manager than that.

I think both Wellens and Forrester will be on the bench. Robinson will replace Tyson. Either Jones or McCombe will play if fit.

Bennett has the shirt at the moment & he knows he has to keep performing to keep it. bring Forrester on with 20 to go will create havoc

I'd change nothing.

Forrester and Wellens can come on at H/t if the game requires them.

Same midfield as the last two games Wellens and Forrester have to fight for their place the lads in the team have their place and they deserve to stay there.

Forrester isn't a striker he would go behind the striker if anything.

Forrester and Wellens on the bench for me. They need to fight their way back in. Only good for the team as a whole!!

I wouldn't change from Tuesday's starting line-up with a bench including Jones, McCombe, Forrester, Robinson & Wellens, looks a very competitive squad.

Funny only a few months people were saying how we would have only youth players on the bench. I know that two injuries and a suspension can soon make it look average again but that team on tues with that bench plus curtis main to add changes things and makes us a playoff side imo

Probably not but imo there isn't a reason to change the team.

Isn't it refreshing that we are now debating who to leave out of the team and put on the bench?  A few weeks ago there were serious concerns, doom and gloom etc about putting out a decent starting 11...
