Something wrong with the welsh league if he was still playing in it

Another youth academy product that has not made it as a pro.

Correct, GazLaz. And I remember a number on here thinking it was a travesty when he was let go...sentimentality gets in the way of fact sometime.

There are a few who have made it and done half decent but not quite kicked on. The young lad Fairhurst scored twice in two games in the Championship after debuting so he had something about him, but he sank without a trace. Likewise I think at least one of the Nelthorpe lads played in the Championship.

He's still only 23 now. Did we let him go too early ? Who knows what he'd be like now if we'd kept & developed him. Not saying three against Aberystwyth Town is proof he would be a world beater mind, but you never know..........
And yes Chris Black. I thought Fairhurst was gonna be the business  :(

Saw Fairhurst plays for Maltby Main on Saturday after Rovers, he's certainly piled a few pounds on since he played for Rovers. He was ineffective in a pretty good team performance.

I know Fairhurst scored a couple in the Championship but I never really saw anything in his performances to suggest he could really make it for us or anyone else at that level.

Mind you I initially said the same about Paul Green when he first broke through!

It’s one thing having ability but if the attitude isn’t right and that i am afraid is the case with some of the lads that look as though they have a chance of making it.
They then just end up playing 6th tier or below football.

I was at an away game once and can remember him coming on and a group of fans were calling him Billy Sh*tehouse. That’s about all I remember about him

Pleased for him really thought he would make it but heyho
To be honest I was surprised to see him at TNS as he played for Gainsborough a few weeks ago against us and seemed quite settled there

SOD did make some ‘interesting’ central defensive signings - Rachid Bouenna, Oscar Radford, Byron Webster, Dennis Souza, Wayne Thomas, Richard Naylor, Shelton Martis.

Harsh to list Martis with that rabble, he did a decent job for us at times and scored some important goals. He was better for us than the rest of them combined!

Webster was unlucky tho - he could've been a very good player for Rovers had he not been curtailed by Henderson(?)

Martis got a 4.5 year deal. Could you imagine trying to get that past Baldwin these days?!

Difficult to weigh up which is worse, that or a 3 year contract for Evina.
