the u18s at Newcastle

Today they stepped up a class against a strong Newcastle side and lost 5-1 a score that in no way reflected the game but carries many lessons for the youngsters.
The lessons learnt must be that you cannot give sloppy goals away by poor defending and not being aware of where your opponents are in your own area, and when you get a chance at the other end you have to take them.
That was the story of this game. although a friendly lessons must be learnt if they are to progress in the game, a number of relatively easy chances scorned while their more illustrious opponents were clinical at the other end,
So their unbeaten start to the season comes to an end in a hard lesson, and it is on to play Thorne on Tuesday evening, a different open age team from the top academy side they played today but a stiff challenge for the youngsters who will be looking to get back to winning ways before the start of their league season.
Both the lads and the Thorne side will be pleased to see you down at the game  and it is a chance for you to run the rule over the boys who hope one day to play in front of you at the Keepmoat, after a score that did not do the performance credit they will be looking to have a good game and bounce back.

The old adage Shelby, you learn more from mistakes and defeats, if they don’t then they aren’t good enough. Let’s hope they learn

7-00 pm kick off Tuesday at Thorne for anyone who is interested to go and watch the u18s against a good local side  and both sides hoping for a decent support to turn out and watch.
