This offers an explanation of how the rules work. Interestingly the wages of our long-serving players (Coppinger, Sullivan, Stock, O'Connor etc) don't seem to count as they were signed before Sept 2011. So it is not these rules that are preventing us from signing players, although it could be the wage budget that has been set for the squad as a whole which is having that effect.

So I make it at worst only Spurr, Bennett, Beye, Brown and Husband of the 13 retained count towards the wage cap since Coppinger, O'Connor, Stock, Sullivan, M.Woods, G.Woods, Martis and Friend were all signed before Sep 2011. And not sure about Bennett, Brown and Spurr as to which exact month they were signed in summer 2011.
Doesn't mean we aren't in financial problems but does at least mean transfer sanctions are unlikely

The unattached player's or contracted player's would want paying if signed now , but the one's that are " out of contract " will be paid by their parent club until the end of June when their contract expires surely.So there'd be nothing to stop us signing them on a pre contract .

Are you saying they would sign a pre-contract but not expect a signing on bonus or salary until later? I doubt that.

We want hungry player's not greedy one's.
If a player who is already getting a wage demands paying before he actually starts working for us then tell him where to shove it . As for the " bonus " or " signing on fee " we will have to pay that anyway so we wouldn't be saving anything if we paid it now or later.

I'm aware of what we would like to have, but this time of year is always about patience for players and ourselves. Most free agents will also hold back on the basis that a better offer may come in later, its a game of chess for a lot of individuals and clubs.
In a recent meeting with the Football League we went through the details of the FFP, the sanctions available and the consequences of not meeting them. It was pointed out that this season it would be difficult for some clubs, not least those relegated from the Championship, and that the sanctions would not be used unless there was no attempt by that club to get somewhere close. This season is a state of flux for some clubs but also players, they have no knowledge of what their market rate is, what they can achieve in salary may well be dictated by the FL as a whole and how realistic their existing salary levels are with regard to overall income. Who knows until all ST sales are counted?
