Best Whitby Fish & Chips
« on May 19, 2024, 06:57:36 pm by River Don »
This is a nice little video from a London food reviewer

https://youtu.be/ntkCF91kSuo?si=frW6Hz0E4JlpYGOs

Interesting that the highly rated Magpie cafe didn't win. I tend to agree with him there.

Also a bit disappointed he didn't check out Papas because it occupies the most high profile spot in the town, and the chain is now up and down the Yorkshire coast

If you know a better Whitby chippy, I'd be interested to see it.

Also check his review of Rick Stiens fish and chips in Cornwall, which as we all instinctively know is not a patch on the Yorkshire coast but much more expensive.

I bought fish and chips from Rick Steins shop in Padstow last summer.
Seriously expensive and about half the size of portions that I usually get local to where I live.

Haven’t been to Whitby for ages but I seem to remember one chippy - not in the town centre - had a huge queue.  Usually a good sign but you have to be patient.!

For some reason Whitby seems to have claimed the mantle of ultimate fish and chips destination.

Good fish & chips are few and far between in London these days.

I can recommend the two brothers in Finchley and the Rock & Soul Plaice in Severn Dials

Best fish and chips in Whitby are at ‘ The Fisherman's Wife’. On the bend at bottom of steps below the whalebone. Good view looking out over the sea.

He murdered Rick steins, when I visited Padstow it was a mini Whitby but you couldn’t move freely for visitors, Steins place is just a Tourist Trap!

To be honest I only go to the Magpie and only have Battered Monkfish and chip’s and peas in the Restaurant, failing that I will have the Turbot in Black Butter Sauce, or Lobster Thermidor!

I usually go to Mr. Chips just over the Harbour bridge. It doesn't look at all fancy but I've never been disappointed. Trenchers looks good though so I'll give it a go next time.

Only been to the Magpie once and I was very disappointed. The curry was nice but the rest was a bit meh.

Riverside Fisheries on Church Street, across the road from the boatyard. The locals' no. 1.
