Worst run in our history?
« on March 09, 2016, 06:55:25 pm by BillyStubbsTears »
I'm guessing that 1 point in 11 games can't be far off the worst run we've ever had.

Put it in perspective.

2008/09 early season we got 2 points from 12 games.

1997/98, worst run we had was 3 points from 12 games.

In 1904/05, we had one run of 1 point from 11 games, and another of 1 win (2 points back then) from 17 games.

It really is THAT bad folks. Worse than Weaver. Worse than pre-Heffernan first season in the Championship. On a par with the 04/05 season which is still the worst performance by any Tier 2 league side in history.

More context. When Derby had that horrific Premiership season in which they did even worse than us in 04/05, their worst run was 1 point from 13 games.

Point of order. It is actually one point from eight games, or three from ten.

Not to say it won't end up being one point from 11 games, but we're not quite there yet!

Unbelievable really when you look at it.
How some people can sit there and say we are just having a bit of a bad run when we are on the worst run in our history is beyond me.

The whole club needs shaking up from top to bottom and start with a clean slate

Err. Yeah. Back to fixing shelves.

Copps. Yep. I tell all the kids to sit down and keep quiet and then I belt them if they speak.

Was it under Kinnear we had a similar kind of run, can't remember how points we got but it wasn't good, this run is absolutely horrendous though.

Heffernan you say?

We need to hear more about his relationship with SOD that season.

The worst sustained run in our history must surely by the 20+ game debacle crossing two seasons as SOD was on his way out.

When we got the (then) all time low of 8 points we surely must have put 3 4 or more bad runs together ?

I saw the win against Hull City that season.

It was hilarious. Adie Mike scored the world's shittest goal and Hull just could not believe they had lost. We couldn't believe we had won. For some reason I remember the Pop being closed that game so I was in Main Stand. Might be wrong.

First home win against Chester was similar, it was Megas birthday I think and, staff of life after to celebrate

Are you sitting comfortably?

Around the time Rovers were going out of the League in 1998 I wrote a paper for a Sports History conference on the 1904-05 season. If anyone would like a copy please PM me and I can email it to you.

Interesting that Dingles started after us (1887 vs our 1879) but they had reached the FA Cup final by 1910 and won the thing by 1912. Fair play Dingles. Bet they couldn't wait to get their 12 fingers all over that trophy.

I don't think we can have had a worse sustained run than the second half of the 2010-11 season.

In the last 27 games of this season we won only twice.

This included a run of 10 games featuring 8 defeats, 1 draw and 1 win.

Sweet Jesus, I'd forgotten about that season. It hurt even more because of how promising we'd been 12 months earlier when Jones, Muir, Noteman, Ranks and Rufus were chewing up the division and spitting it out.

91/2 wasn't quite as bad as you say, but Christ it was bad enough.

Puts this season in perspective when folk complain about us being the worst ever.

I remember the two Crewe Keague Cup matches. That was when the lifetime-long gallows humour mood re:Rovers set into me. That's why I can't get into the whining that goes on at the moment. It's football. It gives and it f**king takes.

Like my old grandad used to say: Laugh when you lose and laugh like bloody hell when you win.

Problem round here is that some folk can't even raise a grin when we win...

Like when we got thrashed away at Scunny I think that once Crewe were running us ragged and we had no chance the fans decided to enjoy themselves as best they could.
I remember a bemused Johnny Muir looking at our fans singing and chanting while getting mullered.
I think that the Southend fans felt the same in the play offs against us.
I've come all this way and we can't win, pressure off I'm gonna make the best of it.

That League Cup match away at Crewe. I remember dozens of us stood on top of a crush barrier against the back wall of the old away end singing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" as we bombed out 9-4 on aggregate.

Looking at the Statto page for that season, f**k me we were awful. Conceded 22 goals in the first 6 matches of the season. Didn't keep a clean sheet till mid-January.

But I'll tell you what. Among the few who went, there was less moaning than there is on here these days.

Thats the thing though with the internet , the moaning / comments  / criticism  can go on for days after afterwards  and somehow seems to have more credence as a written piece than  a bloke shouting in the pub.

Going back to the Crewe game say 2 out of the bus full were moaning , they'd have said their piece, been argued with and then anyone who wasnt there  would have no idea as to the comments  made , and then would have to rely on their own circle of friends to vent off on.

Now  assume the same few percent of fans have the same woe is me views, they can start umpteen threads which can be then construed as the views of the masses as they are seen as the only opinions being expressed complete with dramatic headlines for the casual viewer

Im not saying everyones happy ( or should be ) but when you look through the comments its only the same 4 or 5       who are really starting these threads which then take over- so is it the  fans which have really changed  or the conduit?

Unbelievable really when you look at it.

It's not only unbelievable, it's incorrect.
We've won 6 points out of the last 11 games, not 1 point.
