I think panic is an exaggeration. Concern was the overall feeling with one or two exceptions 😉

Oh there was plenty of panic, particularly on here. Thankfully all for nothing!

Yes but why was it publicly stated he had rejected the contract. Even John said that in the article. It should have been said that the club and John were still in negotiations. Which is what was happening. The contract had never been rejected.

Better story than "routine talks continue" plus probably something for both parties to present it as being rejected.

For Marquis it puts fan pressure on Rovers to pony up as we don't want to lose such a superstar do we lads; and for Rovers it shows fans that he is a money grabbing so and so who fans need to criticise if he walks away plus it shows other players it is not open cheque book time and we are tough bargainers.

Probably a bit of a ploy by Fergie to hurry Marquis up and sign. All the panic on here had been in full flow for a few weeks by the time that particular aspect of the 'saga' was revealed.

Exactly what I said Steve.
The club should never have handled the situation the way they did.

Hmmmm.... how about the media/press getting hold of the story....bigging it up to a rejection. The club asks certain papers not to run the story because it's just not helpful. They agree until a certain rag ( based in Leeds) with whom we don't have any real relationship with are going to run it so our local media say we might as well run it also. Or did I just dream that or.......did I not ☺

Why?,If your implying the team will struggle and he will lose form,he'll still have 3 years pay to collect,IF that situation does arise, then if anyone will regret him signing,it will be us the fans and the Rovers management.

E.L.F. could be ,we might be doing that well,(still in the League cups John scoring a hat trick against Leeds) through to the KO in the cheka and drawn Man U away in the 3rd rnd and him already on 20 goals that he would have got more waiting until January.
And all this is just as possible as your tripe.
