He's the Stevenage manager I believe. Currently 6/1 to replace Saunders with Sky Bet.

Christ, no. His football is about as easy on the eyes as Westley's. Please for f**k's sake not him.

Ahhh! Reight. Ta.

I make it that 1% of the 7 billion inhabitants of Planet Earth have been favourites to replace Saunders with some bookie over the last 120 hours.

I'm still keeping my money on Danny Bergara.

Seems like rubbish to me. I don't see what the club would see in him.

I doubt there is anything in it but you never know, did a cracking job last season in taking over from Westley and continuing what was already in place (removing the Westley cheating tactics slowly) to guide them into the play offs.

He has made Stevenage a very dominant side in the physical department (perhaps only second to our own).

Edit: Now I would be more interested in Neil Withington at Stevenage. One of the main reasons they were promoted from League 2 was because Westley instructed Withington (fitness coach) to make sure the players could last 180 minutes of football not 90 to ensure tiredness didnt become an issue and it obviously worked as Stevenage won L2 playoffs with a squad mainly consisting of Conference players.

I think you might be onto something there Lee. After all, replacing Mal adequately may be as crucial an appointment as the next manager.

Anyway, didn't this Gary Smith win the MLS a couple of years ago? He can't be that bad and like Lee said he has done very well to keep Stevenage going in the right direction like he has.

That basically becomes a cup tournament at the end of it though.

I don't know what he's done before moving to Stevenage, possibly an American team? But he hasn't impressed me. His Football is on the same level of awfulness as Westley's is at Preston and he's hardly doing fantastic with them this season is he? Did a good job at the end of last season though.

Did Westley leave half way through the season? If so then I'd imagine that's why they finished 6th, as they seem to have fallen short of how they did last season in comparison (unless - as I expect - someone can show me wrong).

Then I'd guess his work in the first half of the season is why they got to the playoffs last season. I think Smith is more of a mid table manager (as we're seeing now) than someone who can take a club (us or Stevenage) to the next level on his work alone - without a big budget, that is.

However to be fair I understand they lost key players over the summer, which will obviously make things harder.

Graham Westley left Stevenage 6th and Gary Smith ensured they finished there. It was classed as a major over achievement considering Stevenage were joint favorites to be relegated, they were also the early pace setters in the league this season (had Browny not scored at the KMS against them they would have gone top of the league) and currently going through a blip which usually means they will find their form (as they usually do) towards the end of the season again.
