Probably swap Copps and Bennett, as he has done in pre-season, and allow Cotterill and Copps to switch flanks during the game, then that'd be the team I'd play. Not that we have much choice at the minute mind, if we want to field our strongest XI!

Jeez...the ink on the contract isn't dry yet and already people are mispelling his name in the age old Rovers tradition. I think my all time favourite is McGammon

Manager Dean Saunders was looking to add to his squad before tomorrow’s Capital One Cup tie against York City, although he admitted any deal would not be done in time for the player to play a part in the game, ‘Hopefully we will sign a player today, he won’t be able to play tomorrow as he needed to be signed before 12noon so hopefully he will be ready for next week,

Some body had better tell Dean then .  :)

Or he could be saying the deal won't be done before tomorrow at 12? Look the rules up if you like.

Is that definitely correct? Seems to be differing views on when reg needs to take place to allow him to play tomorrow.

Ineligible to play unless his registration was completed by noon today....

41.2 Subject to Regulations 41.4 and 41.5, a Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if the appropriate forms for his registration or the transfer of his registration (other than those referred to in Regulation 41.3) are received (including by facsimile) and found to be in order by the Executive by 12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match.

I wondered that too,  but It's the League cup, ie a fixture organised by the League,  so I'm guessing it's the same.

It is the same if they are using the old Carling cup rules which i presume they are.

6 Players

6.1 A Player shall be considered bona fide if he is registered by his Club with The Football League, in accordance with the provisions of Football League Regulations or with the Premier League in accordance with The Premier League Rules save that Players registered on a temporary basis will not be eligible to play unless the loaning Club gives its written consent. No player shall play for more than one Club in the Cup Competition in any one Season.

I think he did too. Shackell also signed on loan on a Saturday morning and was playing that afternoon. May be different for loans, though.

And perhaps us announcing a signing and actually signing the player don't always happen the minute before they're announced? Maybe we signed Shackell the day before, or indeed perhaps we signed him on an emergency loan deal which may be subject to different regulations.

Who knows, all I gather is that McCombe won't play tomorrow. Wouldn't surprise me to see Quinn in the middle with Spurr and Paul Keegan playing at right back.
