Ex McCann Players

Maybe one for SCWK but managers tend to go back to players they have worked with beforehand. Who could potentially join the Club that has played under McCann?

Let's start with Goalkeepers

George Long? Or would he be way out of our price range/budget?

Seen Josh Emmanuel's name mentioned who is an athletic full-back.

Prompted me to look through the squad he worked with at Hull in L1. Dan Crowley was there on loan and is now available after leaving Morecambe. Tom Eaves hasn't had a great time at Rotherham so might become available - wouldn't be my first choice necessarily but would add some physicality and power up front.

Didn't we have Crowley on trial last pre-season?
Not sure about Eaves.

The Wellens pre-season I think, yeah, along with Louis Reed and a few others.

Didn’t he last about 5 minutes in a friendly at Rosso and then did his hamstring

Didn't he have Eaves lined up to join us just before he left? He then went ahead and signed him at Hull.

He’s not a championship striker but he’d be great in league 2

Ricky Jade-Jones out of favour at Peterborough after GM left. Exactly what we need but would like have to be on loan.

Because GM mentions needing players to “beat the press” that would mean someone to run in behind with pace from wide as well as a target man centrally. Molyneux likes it to feet so need a direct player wide for balance.

GM always has a bigger striker like Marquis / Magennis / Eaves. Can’t be looking at strikers like Danny Johnson need ones who suit the system. Mix it up like he said.

Think you're thinking of Nathan Thomas.

Eaves hasn’t scored in his last 25 appearances.

Wonder if Tyler Smith could be tempted to drop to league 2 on loan. He won’t be wanted at Hull and was at Oxford at the end of the season I think

Nobody said he had.

The last time he did play in League Two though was 2016/17 when he managed 4 goals in 40 league appearances.

Eaves hasn’t scored in his last 25 appearances.

25 appearances at Championship level, and I imagine no more than a handful have been starts so based on minutes on the pitch the way you put it sounds much worse than it is.

I’d be surprised if we manage to get someone on paper better than this - the last 6 or 7 seasons at League One level or better, capable of good goal scoring runs and probably most importantly he’s tall and physical.

I've not put it any way other than stating that he hasn't scored in his last 25 appearances. That's an entirely objective, not subjective statement.

Eaves would be an excellent signing for League 2.

Sure, and I suppose saying the last time he played at this level he only scored 4 in 40 is also entirely objective and not intended as a slight.

Do you think that Eaves would be a good signing?

It was a reply to a comment that he wasn't playing in League Two, when he didn't score in 25. It's an entirely appropriate reply to then look at the last time he did play in League Two, that's literally the reference point for that response.

No views on him either way.

He’s back at Bolton now and they are short on contracted players. He’s really enjoyed his time at Orient and working with Wellens. I think his family would always be happy to see him back here, and McCann is a fan so you never know.

You missed out the 2 seasons after that where he scored 17 and 21 in League 1.

Besides, the role of a target man is more than just scoring goals it’s to allow the wide forwards to also get in on the act in a 4-3-3.

Bowen was very prolific under McCann for example.

Eaves would be a good signing at this level and will probably have smaller league 1 clubs after him.

I didn't miss them out, because the relevant reference point for League Two, is playing in League Two.

The relevant reference point for scoring goals in League One, is League One.

Nobody has raised what the attributes of a striker should be.

Ok Johnson Clarke-Harris would struggle in League 2 by this strange logic?

Just watching the game and Hector Kyprianou is the type of player we are crying for. Signed by GM. Fingers crossed that this style of player is his main priority.

Portsmouth have released Michael Jacobs. He was quality, not sure if at 31 he is what we need, but he got through a decent amount of games for them this season.

I think he will go in to loan Di’shon Bernard from Man Utd. He’s a centre back that was on loan at Portsmouth, made ten appearances for them. I also see him going in for Conor Grant and a young player from Southampton on a season’s loan, Dominic Ballard, a striker currently playing in their B team.

Conor Grant wouldn't be a bad shout BUT Plymouth have released him due to injury problems.......exactly the type of player we don't want to be signing. Last thing we need is another Taylor.
