And sometimes easy to forget how good we had it.

I think those days of (ultimately) being competitive in the Championship have gone, probably forever, unless we are going to massively overspend as we did then.

However I don’t think us being competitive in reaching the League One play offs as we did under McCann is a fantasy. That’s a reasonably realistic outcome every half dozen seasons or so in League One.

We are nowhere near that level though and given imminent relegation and the need to totally rebuild yet again, it is going to be several years until we are a mid/upper mid table side again in League One.

Did we over spend though? I liked the strategy of taking the best of lower league talent and selling them for millions. Part of the problem was getting bullied over price of outgoing transfer fees or shite conditions in contracts.
This current model, or whatever the f**k it is, is never going to give us any chance of success.
If the board aren't careful, we'll be playing with crowds of sub 5k again.

What a team, we really did have it good then.

That Woods goal and build up is class.

And the most remarkable thing was a lot of our success with that team, evidenced in that clip, wasn't through being the most skillful, or the strongest, or the fastest, it was through being good at the most basic of all strategies in football...pass and f**king move. Something the current shower seem completely incapable of doing most of the time.

In hindsight we should of cashed in on our better players sooner in the championship and used the money wisely to be a yo yo team. We seemed to do a good job initially keeping players only for them to leave a bit later for less or a few would get badly injured giving us no resale.

Loved it at the time though trying to keep the quality we had and properly competing with bigger clubs.

Live next to a Forest fan who 'treated' me to a ticket for Christmas.  I still have the ticket and many good memories.  He was actually glad as Calderwood got sacked after the game....

Round pegs in round holes. SOD knew what he wanted and so did the players

Good grief, we were good back then weren’t we.
That second goal personified the quality we had in the team.
First time pass and move, an absolute joy to watch.

McCanns team was good to watch too but in a different way, possibly more exiting.

The stuff we are being served up with over the last couple of years is horrible to have to endure.

Things can change for the better but won’t because lessons haven’t been learned. We will start next season with the same manager. The football side needs brave decisions making.
We need a manager to come in that lifts the place with his energy and enthusiasm. It’s as bright as a shift down pit.

Manager, players scared to have a go at trying to win games, attempting to keep the score down like we are the San Marino of club football. There are players in this squad that a good manager could get performing. He has tried his best, I do feel for McSheffrey but it hasn’t worked out.
