Should be our anthem seeing as though England didn't want Doncaster back.

Shit anthem written to celebrate Scotlands one and only Battlefield victory over the English, they’ve being paying for it ever since lol!

Anthem?
It's a modern folk song!

They are sprouting weeds at Hamden tonight though and a few weeping willows in the crowd at the end no doubt.

Don't football league clubs have anthems?

My favourite Jock was Robert the Bruce,a top bloke, he captured Marmaduke deThweng at Bannockburn, treated him to a Royal Dinner gave him a horse and free passage back to Yorkshire! Edward the First would have been far less conciliatory with a captured Foe!

Way better than England’s dirge, both the song and the way it’s belted out. I’ve never been to Hampden but hearing it at Murrayfield is something else.

Flower of Scotland is a terrific anthem and makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Our dirge is enough to put anyone to sleep and half our team don't appear to know the words either. Why we don't have our own "English" national anthem I have never understood.

Pretty much every national anthem in the world stirs the blood apart from our dirge.

I do like Flower of Scotland.

The French and Italian anthems are the best.

We should have Land Of Hope And Glory as our national anthem.

I'll tell you a story about the effect that Land Of Hope And Glory has on people. During the Falklands war, I was the LASER operator at Camelots pub in Wood Street, Doncaster.  My duties also included selecting the music, so I suppose you could say DJ, but for the fact that there was no mic for talking to the audience!

Anyway, there I was sitting in front of the old organ pipes above the bar, and at the end of each night during the Falklands conflict, I signed off with L.O.H.A.G. Now, bearing in mind how young the clientele was on average in the place, the emotional expression on those young faces, and their vocal contributions to the song was a joy to behold, and the intense emotion the song provided has stuck with me since.

The only problem was getting the buggers out after it'd finished!

Good to see their English lads in their team singing it too. Becoming Ireland for England's not wanted players.

France and Italy great

Austria goes on forever and ever especially when Red Bull win at F1 and should be shortened on Podium

Lichtenstein has same tune as our dirge

Spanish is a great tune but didn't know it had no words till very recently

Our supposed Anthem once had the words "rebellious Scots to crush". No wonder they don't like it

You should have put Duran Duran on. That would have done the trick BB.

A proper stirring anthem, God save the King is painful! Who wants to sing about the Royals apart from Daily Mail reader types!

I'm sure (maybe not in my lifetime) we will rejoin the EU (threads elsewhere)

I'm sure (again not in my lifetime) that we will become a Republic and will no longer need God save our gracious **** as our Anthem

Chance for a new 'un at that point. Pick a good 'un folks

Land of my Fathers - the Welsh anthem is spine tingling.

Used to work on the bars at the Millenium stadium and hearing a packed crowd sing that made me emotional, even though there’s not an ounce of Welsh in me.

Has to be said Mr Bullet, as interesting as it turned out, I felt more than a little let down by what followed in your story
