I've seen him with Paul Stancliffe at a couple of recent games.

I remember speaking to him in around 1996 when he was playing for us. Good bloke. He came into professional football relatively late- I think he was in his mid-20s when Lincoln signed him from Gainsborough Trinity. He said it made him realise how lucky he was to be a footballer. I'm sure that will form part of his message to young players.

To quote a mate of mine who played with him when he was with us "He was a talentless f**ker who just ran & shouted the right things". He always speaks highest of Birchy in terms of ability.

I wouldn't have said he was a great player but he was a trier in a team that sometimes appeared a bit short on them. Paul Birch was quality though.

Schofield scored a cracker against Gillingham (I think it was?) back at Belle Vue. Don't think he bagged many but that one was memorable. Generally limited in technique but made up for that with a great attitude and work rate.

Paul Birch really was different class. Stood out a mile.

Used to love his corner routine, starting at the front and then circling round the back into the space. Bizarrely was showing U9's that corner routine on Monday.

Paul Birch stood out like a sore thumb. Never could understand what he was doing with a bunch of deadbeats like us tbh. Very, very sad what happened to him.
