Eugene Dadi
« on February 05, 2020, 01:55:40 pm by Colin C No.3 »
Last night a Tranmere supporter came over to the bench me & our kid were sat at in the ‘supporters Marquee’ & reminded us of an incident in the match there in 2005. They had a striker, Eugene Dadi, who was red carded in the 33rd minute of the game.

The Rovers supporters immediately struck up with:-

“Where’s your Dadi gone, where’s your Dadi gone..” to the song ‘where’s your mama gone’ by Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.

He said ‘they’ still reckon it was the best & funniest retort ever sung by an away support, it even made them chuckle at the time.

We went on to win 4-2.

Yep,I remember that,I started chanting it as soon as the Red card came out, would like to think I started it off,but If not I was one of the first.I spotted a poll on the internet once, and it was voted Best chant from Away fans. After walking into the car park after the game,a couple of kids, only about 8 or 9 year old shouted at my family was,"***k you,we are still the ***king best Rovers team" and other obscinities, the sad little scrots.

Pretty sure we won 2-0 in 2005. I was at the 4-2 the year before - last match of the season when we still had a very slim chance of making the play-offs.

EDIT.

Scrap that. You're right. The 2-0 was the year after on the last day of the season.

Last day of 2005/06, we were in 8th place, two points behind Forest and Swansea with a much worse GD. We had to win and them two lose to make the play-offs. 20 minutes in, we're winning, Forest are losing and Swansea drawing and it was proper heart in mouth time. As it turned out, Forest got a point and Swansea won.

I still think we chucked that season away by the run of form we had in March, after Penney had said we were out of the hunt for the play-offs and made some bizarre selections like dropping Ross McCormack for Lewis Guy, leading to us getting only 5 points from 6 games.

I remember that too, it was pretty much instantaneous and spontaneous and extremely funny.

I was there also, I think we filled the away end that day. I remember reading their forum after the game and one of their fans described the mass of Rovers fans as looking like a 'giant teatowel'.

I did think that but tried singing it in my head and could n’t think how it went, thats why I thought they must be two songs, I stand corrected 🤪

“He’s got a pineapple on his head” was also sung at the same game.

We definitely won and the away end was packed!
