My Rover of the day, Maureen Kirsopp
« on June 01, 2020, 12:41:59 pm by LincsRover »
Hi everyone. It is with great sadness that I let you know that my mum, Maureen Kirsopp, lost her long & courageous battle with illness and passed away on Saturday 23rd May.

Mum had been a ST holder with rovers for many years and hardly ever missed a game, home or away. She was as passionate a rovers fan as I’ve ever witnessed, both in the ground and on Facebook, and was always happiest when watching her beloved rovers.

She received a number of awards with rovers; she was one of the mums chosen to be mascots on Mother’s Day a few years back, celebrated her 70th at a game in the legends lounge (where she got to meet & kiss her hero Copps) and was most recently awarded 2 tickets & meals in the legends lounge as day 12 in the ‘12 gifts of Christmas’ - a reward for her brave battle against illness, and one which, unfortunately, she was never able to fulfil due to her condition. However, it was a wonderful day and she absolutely loved being centre of attention and receiving her gifts and, best of all, to speak to Alfie May.

Her funeral is on Weds June 10th at 1.40pm and, as was her wish, she will be wearing her rovers shirt for the last time and will have a rovers flag on her coffin. We will be taking a detour to drive past the keepmoat stadium between 1pm & 1.15pm on 10th June (again, as she requested) so if anyone is around at that time please feel free to give her some applause, as she did at every game, win or lose, at the keepmoat.

Finally she wanted to let her ‘rovers family’ know that she loved them, would always remember them and was, as she always told everyone, RTID!

Thankyou   :rtid:

Hi Lincs,  like you I lost my mum in early this year after a very sudden illness and have an idea of the pain you are and will go through. People try and say things to comfort you and two have stayed with me.

You will bury a part of yourself.

You never get over it just round it.

Stay strong

Sorry to hear of your loss Lincs. Thoughts are with you and your family. I lost my mum back in April & I will never forget how she turned her nose up & then smiled when I asked if she was coming to the Rovers with me.

Thanks no eyed deer, I’m sure mum would
a. Be very proud
b. Not be at all surprised that her rovers family made her very proud

Thank you to everyone who has contributed and I’m sure the foundation will use the money wisely to help the people of Doncaster, just as mum wanted.
