Captain Tom

He's been struggling at home with pneumonia for the past two weeks & tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday.

He's been admitted to Bedford hospital but is not in ICU.

Get well soon Captain.

I thought that we had had a bid for Tom Anderson for a minute there.
Joking apart though, good luck Captain Tom.

That would be a sadly ironic end. Good luck to him.

A man with huge determination, a lucidity that belied his years, a clarity of purpose & a demeanour that engaged him with the whole population.

Our politicians would do well to strive for some of his attributes.

What a life, what a man.

Rest in Peace Captain.

Served in the Arakan admin box campaign in Burma during the second world war, he saw the worst of humanity as a young man.

He had a fascinating life for most of his 100 years and then achieved more in his last few months than most of us can ever dream of doing.

An ispiration to the nation

RIP Sir Captain

I know Capt Tom is a yorkshireman but I hope it doesn't involve Leicester and car parks as it did for the last Yorkist king

I feel incredibly sad at this news, he was a beacon of hope and honesty at a time when our lives are in the hands of crooks and liars.

I was extremely upset to hear of Captain Tom's passing this afternoon .

Captain Tom came from a generation this country is unlikely to see again , probably the best generation the country's ever seen .

A true inspiration and a lovely man .

RIP Captain Tom Moore , a life so well lived .

Very sad news indeed.

On another point, I assume he had been vaccinated. So I wonder, was the pneumonia that did for him, a result of Covid? Reports seem to suggest he had pneumonia and then caught Covid. A hundred year old passing as a result of pneumonia isn't unexpected. I just wondered if it was the Covid in the end or not.

He didn't receive the vaccine because of the medication he was on to treat pneumonia.

RIP Captain Tom, not sure it was a wise decision for his family to take him to Barbados in the midst of a global pandemic though

I believe pneumonia can be caused by Covid. The two could well be linked.

It's a sad loss, the guy offered hope to so many and to lose him to Covid feels cruel. Thoughts with his family.

He didn't receive the vaccine because of the medication he was on to treat pneumonia.

That is unfortunate. He's developed the pneumonia which prevented him for having the vaccine. Then having to go into hospital he's contracted the covid.

The pneumonia might have been enough on its own but that has directly lead to him contracting covid and not having any protection against it.

Poor fella, still one hundred is an excellent age.

He probably had an amazing time surrounded with his family, and would have loved every minute of it.
And the family have memories now to cherish and talk about forever.

I'd say they made the right decision, good on them.

RIP captain Tom.
True British legend.
